UFC/MMA ARE THEY ALL GLORIFIED TOMATO CANS?:Evans Knocks Out 'The Iceman'

    Evans Knocks Out 'The Iceman'

ATLANTA (Sept. 6) - Chuck Liddell was the face of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Rashad Evans is part of the changing of the guard in mixed martial arts.

Evans knocked out Liddell with a thunderous overhand right to the jaw 1:51 into the second round Saturday night at UFC 88, setting up a likely championship bout with light heavyweight title-holder Forrest Griffin late this fall.
"Hopefully it puts me right up there," Evans said. "I'm a patient man."
Liddell, the former champ and a key figure in the rise of the sport, has lost three of his last four fights, two of them by knockouts.
The 38-year-old was on the canvas for several minutes after the knockout before getting to his feet and walking out of the octagon.
"You've got to go right for the horns," Evans said. "You can't fight him trying to takedowns."
The 28-year-old Evans is unbeaten after getting his start on the reality television series "The Ultimate Fighter." He won the second season of the ****e TV series.
Liddell and Evans were scheduled to fight in June, but the bout was postponed. Neither had fought since late last year.

A guy who's lost three of his last four fights (lidell) is headlining in that so called "sport", and the stans of it still suckle on his nuts like they were a pacifier. I hope the MMA fans got their money's worth. LMAO.

Tito Trinidad has lost 3 of his last 5.
Oscar has lost 3 of his last 6.
Hopkins has lost 3 of his last 5.

It's not unheard of in this sport either.

Its actually the heart and the explosiveness of the fighters that makes them popular thus making the sports very entertaining. See what happen to DLH Mayweather both are so good but yet they disappointed a lot of fans.

What i've noticed about MMA fans is, they are fans of the sport itself, more than they are fans of any particular fighter. Dont get me wrong, im sure every mma fan has a favorite fighter, but unlike in boxing, i dont see these guys moaning, groaning, and making excuses when a particular fighter loses. As long as its a good entertaining scrap, they are happy. I can respect that.

you do realize that in mma the top guys don't fight nobodies right?

his last 4 fights included quinton jackson and wanderlei silva (both top 10 fighters in their division)

jardine is a solid fighter and rashad is 12-0 up and coming young fighter.

it's actually one of the advantages of mma over boxing. they have to fight who their org tells them too and that means who the fans want to see.

That's a big plus that mma has over boxing. The best are forced to fight the best. In boxing, the best tend to fight the least riskiest fights that bring in the biggest rewards.

another advantage is in mma they don't care about losses.

if you lose fighting the best it's not a big deal. in boxing you have a loss and people talk crap about how you suck.

look at penn. he losses to lyoto no big deal because lyoto is a top light heavyweight. he losses to st. pierre , that's fine i'll prove myself win a few tough fights and i'll get to fight him again and get my revenge.

rankings are based on who you fight NOT what your record is. i wish boxing was like that......

yeah ppl put too much into losses in boxing sadly. ppl look at margarito before williams and like "yah he has a lot of losses..." dude he was very young it doesnt count. in his case i say he only has that one loss for real. but yeah, it dont matter...boxing would improve if it did some things ufc does. oh well. still boxing > > > > ufc for ever for me.

One major advantage that Boxing has over MMA right now is that fighters (politics aside) are free to fight whomever they want. With the UFC being by far the biggest org in MMA, their exclusvie contracts prevent fights like Couture/Fedor or Faber/Kid from happening.
