Joel Casamayor: Champion on The Brink of Elimination

Joel Casamayor has had a stellar boxing career. He won a Gold Medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, won the WBA 130-pound title, and currently holds the linear lightweight world championship. In compiling a solid 36-3-1 record that has entailed bouts with Acelino Freitas, Diego Corrales, and a prime Jose Luis Castillo - it’s clear that “el Cepillo” should be considered the most successful prize fighter to come out of Cuba since Jose Napoles immigrated to Mexico. All three of Casamayor's defeats have been by close razor-thin decisions and he has consistently fought and been successful against a high caliber of opposition. [details]

Considering he is 37 and Katsidis is a young bull, I think Casamayor proved he still has enough in the tank to dish it out with anyone. JMM is a stong puncher, but I dont think he is anywhere near Kat so we know that Joel can take JMM's shots and keep on coming. Casamayor is one of the more underated p4p fighters today and I give him a great shot at beating Marquez.

Im glad you brought up Mayweather. I think whey you talk about 130 Mayweather Casamayors name is always gonig to be mentioned as the fighter he didn't face. I do recall hbo saying how boring a fight between Mayweather and Casamayor would be but they ****ed up in not making that fight. Styles make fights. And we know prime Casamayor would give Mayweather problems. Sure Mayweather would win or at least should win, but its a woulda, coulda situation.

I've heard Casamayor works his ass off in training this told by someone that went to see him train in l.a.

Marquez should win, but even this old Casamayor is dangerous, people underestimate his power.

casamayor is older at 37 but marquez is 35 and looks older than casamayor. a 2-year difference in age is not an advantage. let's see who's older on saturday.

but i pick marquez to win by decision.

One thing i also expect is a dirty fight. Thats one thing not mentioned. Casamayor is going to bring the dirty tactics.

            Let Us Face It.

I Watched Some Memorable Fights Of Casamayor And He Is Awesome During His Prime.but I Am Not Convinced That He Will Win Against Floyd On That Time.floyd Has The Edge With Regards To Hand And Foot Speed That Is Close To Sugar Ray Leonard.his Defense Is Magnificent That You Cannot Hit Him In Succession..joel Is Not Getting Younger Anymore And Jm Marquez Will Give Him Tremendous Beatings At The Later Rounds.lets Face It..retirement Is On The Way For Casamayor And A Rematch With Pacman For Jm Marquez In 2009...he Deserve It Anyway....

Freitas is the other good fighter at 130 at the time who Mayweather never got a bout made against.

I wasn't around, I don't know whose fault either of those were.

Casamayor is pretty done though IMO. It seems problematic that a slick fighter had so many problems with a straight brawler. I mean, honestly, those styles are tailor made for the slick southpaw to win easily. I think it says a lot that he had to bail himself out of that fight with a crushing left hand when Katsidis lost his mind and tried his hardest to get himself knocked out.

By the way, does anyone else get reminded of Antonio Tarver when they watch Casamayor? Slick, defensive southpaw who has a crushing left hand... sounds pretty close.

if casa will win by split decision juanita crybaby would whine again that he is being robbed of a win. that's becoming a habit of the marquez sisters. they always think they won

                  marquez fraud

marquez will probably win but i don't think he should deserve much credit for defeating another ageing fighter. he hasn't faced no real contender in his prime and won.
