I don't think there's anything wrong with Pavlik calling out bigger names right now. Like one of the earlier posters had said, you can't build your resume with big names if you never fight them. So calling them out is necessary. But at the same time, while I think Calzaghe is very talented I really don't see his own resume as all that special myself. I think that a fight between the two is very reasonable looking at their resumes.

But, I do also think that the more important issue for Pavlik should clearing his own division. While I would like to see a Calzaghe/Pavlik card, I would much rather see Pavlik attempt to clear out his division.

I wasn't really scoring properly, just in my head, I had it about 9-3 for Diaz.

              Hahhahaha thats right.

Anyway, I used to think Pavlik was overhyped until I seen him fight Taylor. I know, I know Taylor himself is "overrated" but he was still the best MW in the world. Who does he have to fight?

I find many in here, like the thread starter, views this sport as "us" against America. Pavlik is a target to the Aussie thread starter because Katsidis lost to baby bull last night and he takes it personal.

Well many Americans like Katsidis also. They are not draping themselves in their flag with an us against them attitude. Boxing is an individual sport when they reach a professional level and they are not shooting for a gold metal in the Olympics.

i like pavlik, i think hes a good fighter he is prepared to take on all comers and seemingly all styles. he is one of the few fighters who also has what it takes to become a real mainstream star, and yet he seems to be one of those fighters who would rather fight a tough fight and look to beat the best in order to estblish his own legacy - he does seem to be a bit of a throwback fighter.

however one thing i dont like about pavlik is the bandwagon that follows him. thats no fault of kelly's i know but the hype job surrounding him is almost lacy-like.

                  1) kelly has good power i dont think he has one punch KO power (very few fighters do) - but he does have good power and awesome stamina which is why he can wear down most fighters and then stop them.

                  2) hes white and american - which are two more big reasons why the networks, the governing bodies and even some fans want to see him do well and sometimes overstate just how good he is. you can et your dollar that these are the sme people who will turn around and say he was over-rated if/when he loses.

at the minute this is what i think of pavlik - hes a good fighter with a good fighting heart, decent power, incredibly fit and hes always well conditioned when he gets into the ring. hes the undefeated and undisputed middleweight king as well!! as a brawler he punches from everywhere and from all different angles. whats samrt of pavlik is that he is not dependant on this he employs his jab and boxing skills first and brawls second.

but he has some obvious flaws as well - he is at times very crude and imo over-dependant on his power (possibly believing his own hype), kelly the boxer has some very simple punches afterthe jab, cross and left hook i cant really see alot worth noting. id like to see him throw more uppercuts and more feints. also his chin im not saying its glass but iv yet to see him take a decent shot from another strong boxer and really come back - im gonna bet that he can because kelly has heart but good heart doesn't mean you have a good chin.

If Pavlik becomes the first to stop Hopkins, he will make a big statement.

His resume is very good for an age 26 fighter:

                      - KOed middleweight champion prime Tayor who had never been down on a fight before. Pavlik showed excellent skills and stamina in winning a decision in the second fight

                      - was the first to stop some tough fighters (big punchers) like Zuniga, Zertuche and Miranda.
