Can HIV Positive Fighters Go Pro?

With all that blood flying around, you'd think that it wouldn't be allowed. Especially in MMA fighting.

No. If you're a pro fighter and test positive for HIV they ban you from the sport. Look at Tommy Morrison.

I'm pretty positive they test for all blood contaminations and airborne pathogens. Otherwise they would be out of business for people contracting diseases due to inefficient testing.

Depends on where you fight, Tommy Morrison was on the Chavez Jr v Celaya undercard

i'm no doctor, but the more you think about it, the more it seems like it would be very difficult to contract anything from a cut in boxing. both guys have to have a laceration, and blood (how much blood, i don't know) from the guy who is contaminated has to literally go into the the other guy's wound.

in the amateurs we don't get tested for anything. i know i signed a waiver that said i hadn't had any head or hand injuries, and... well... i don't really know what i signed, but i get fights and have never had a blood test or anything of the sort.

If ya weren't so busy Ball-poppin you'd know they'd get banned.

and step ya game up... cuz i got money stashed away so that if i ever got aids I'd still have *****s fightin to pad my record until i was an ATG... Now who's stuntin/..NOT YOU!! huh huh HAHAHA!

It's only a theoretical risk. Realistically it's not something that would happen. HIV becomes unable to infect very quickly without a host.

I wouldn't feel comfortable having someone purposely dripping their HIV+ blood on a wound, but I wouldn't even be slightly concerned in a boxing match.
