It was Matt McCormick - I think that was the interviewers name - on an interview on June 28, 2003, shortly after Jones defeated Ruiz. And I wanna say ********* (that was one of the sites I frequented A LOT back then--still do) but truthfully, I don't remember where I first read it. I do remember thinking it was a very honest statement from Calzaghe, a fighter I liked--before I got here.

And I don't blame him for making it; at the time Jones was damn near God. Didn't hurt at all to say it. I wish I could find the original link but I can't. Actually, a few years ago, (was writing an article on Calzaghe-Lacy? I believe), I searched mightily for the link and couldn't find. When I saw someone re-post that quote on HERE I was SHOCKED. Couldn't believe someone else even remembered and I don't know how they found it.

Anyway, that's the long and short of it. No doubt, someone will post it soon. My girl's here and if I don't log off I'm ****ed. But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter. Regardless of whoever ducked who, those fights didn't happen when they should have. Watching Calzaghe face the faded versions is disappointing but, whatever. That's boxing.
I remember someone posting that as well. Not sure who it was, but I verified it and was kinda suprised, but then I was'nt because like you said. Jones was thought to be unbeatable at the time. Joe said something like, "Jones is the only fighter I would not want to fight because of his tremendous physical gifts", or something like that. Seriously, it was true.

That's a lie. Joe has always wanted to fight Roy, but he would never come to America. Joe would never utter such words. No boxer at the top of their game, or who is a champion will utter such nonsense. You being a Pav fan would lie to us just to try to show Jow is a coward. You Pav fans are so funny when you over hype your man.

      • Nothing surprising here folks. He's always been an arrogant prick, and he still thinks he's a God.

You are one of the very few... Everyone knows Pav can fight. But when some Pav fans say Cal is scared of him, and even have the heart to use the Lockett fight as evidence, I cry with laughter.

              • Wow, this makes me sick. Calzaghe gets no respect from the majority of fans here because real boxing fans can see through him. Most of his fights have been against UK fighters. Not to offend the UK fans here but the competition is so much more fierce in the US. Whatever though, let him fight an old RJJ and claim that it's such a great matchup.

                He's afraid of Ghosts.

Pav and Cal can fight period. One is getting old, the other is in his prime. What are they like 10 years apart in age or almost!!!??? Pav has many fights in front of him while Cal is about to retire. Pav fans shouldn't accuse Cal of ducking him even if Cal acts like a jerk. Pav has Abraham and many fights in the SMW division. If Cal wants the fight, like any old great champion, Pav can Larry Holmes Cal like Mike did lol. If PAv beats Abraham which he won't, but if he does lol, the smw division will be on fire. It all depends on who wins the Abraham-Pav fight if it ever happens.

What maks me sick is US ******s thinking they know boxing simply because they're from the US, without checking to actually see if they do or not.

Did you know Calzaghe has fought more Americans than any other nationality?

Maybe you've been living in a cocoon for the last decade but during that time the rest of us have watched Calzaghe fight and defeat not only the best fighters from Britain but from Europe, America and the rest of the world.
