You’ve thought about becoming a boxing official and need a place to get started.
To become an amateur boxing referee you must:
Have a desire for the sport of boxing.
Be a member of United States Amateur Boxing (USAB), National Golden Gloves Officials of America (NGGOA) and USA Boxing. At the USAB level you will be considered a non-athlete. That status is only for those who want to referee or coach amateur boxing.
Referees are required to attend a specified number of clinics determined by the level you work. Referees start out in a gymnasium practicing skills before attending actual matches. Level I officials work with 8-12-year-old boxers. New officials are encouraged to study the rulebook and pass a rules test. Amateur boxing referees work on a volunteer basis only and are not paid.

Level II and III officials must complete and pass a rules test and attend a specific number of clinics. There is no charge to attend the clinics, however, the referees are responsible for travel and lodging. Levels are determined by the participant’s age group, class of boxers and ability.
