I spent most of my time in the military running 5 miles or more every morning at 0430, and I know what you mean about having to force yourself to do it, but it gets real easy, real quick, at least it did for me. Something you might try, though, is running a single mile about 6 or 8 times a day, then working up to a couple of miles a few times a day, until you're doing a single run of 6 miles or better. I was always a decent distance runner, so it probably wasn't as annoying for me as it is for alot of people, but I do understand about having to force yourself. What's really funny is that once I left the military and stopped training daily, my body begged me to get off my ass and make my run, so I continued my 5 mile daily trip until I was almost 40 years old and just didn't have the time for it anymore.

Oh, hey...forgot to add: Welcome to the forum. You'll get disgusted with it pretty quick and probably leave it...for awhile, but like me, you'll be back...then you'll get disgusted and leave again, then come back...it seems to be a pattern for me. I get sick of the childish bull****, but end up having to come back for the information and what little intelligent discussion about the sport I can get. Can't get it anywhere else.Comment

That's running a lot a miles five or six times a day, specially for someone who wants to eat six times a day..I spent most of my time in the military running 5 miles or more every morning at 0430, and I know what you mean about having to force yourself to do it, but it gets real easy, real quick, at least it did for me. Not at all, you just make your runs before you eat a meal. And 5 to 6 miles a day is less than 45 minutes, give or take, if you're serious about conditioning.Comment

That translates into about 5 miles a day.
You've got to keep in mind, though, that you can't jog 5 miles a day and make dramatic changes to your body's level of conditioning. You have to RUN those 5 miles. Your time, for a 5 mile run when you're at peak condition, should be under a half hour, give or take just a little. If it isn't, you're not putting forth a serious effort. And the more seriously you take your conditioning, the easier all other aspects of training will be. My opinion is that conditioning is maybe 75% of the overall makeup of a fighter.Comment

the most ive ever jogged was 2 miles consecutively tho. so are you sayin i should run the 5 miles stright out the gate? of should i just try running three at first? iam around like 258 .That translates into about 5 miles a day.

If you want to get your body ready to run 5 miles at a 6 minute per mile (or less) pace, start out slow. Run (I say again, do NOT JOG, RUN) a mile at a time, stretching it out over a couple of weeks to two miles, then a couple more weeks 3 miles, and so on until you're up to 5 miles. Once you're at 5 miles, run it harder and harder until you're doing 5 miles easily, and it will be easy, trust me. Within 6 months you'll be doing your 5 and it'll be over before you even realize it. I can't tell you how many times I'd do an extra lap (half mile), sometimes two, and only notice it because of the stopwatch. Once you're at that point, you have a choice to make...you can spend more time on conditioning, turning your body into a cardio superman, a guy who can throw non-stop for 12 as easily as he can blink, or you can plateu at 5, stick with it religeously and consider it good enough.Comment
