I have to ask, because from reading posts on here I now have the distinct impression that there is nothing this guy can't do, that he can win fights any way he wants to, going forward, going back, on the ropes, centre ring. You name it. He's been "the ultimate counterpuncher", "an awesome body puncher", "a defensive master", "an attacking tornado", "the smartest boxer in history" etc etc.
Far be it from me to question any of this, but I always thought that in his prime he was mostly an unorthodox and supremely gifted offensive boxer, who nontheless was not at his best when placed definitively on the backfoot. He always seemed to me to rely mostly on his athleticism and natural skill, to the detriment of boxing fundamentals, particularly defensively. Not that it ever mattered!
Nowadays I see him as a fairly static orthodox boxer who boxes behind a high guard, has a very fast, crisp and snappy jab and can still unleash some excellent combinations when he wants to. I don't think he's some sort of tactical wizard/ counter puncher though....
Am I wrong?
roy is 50% cheetah, 45% wolf, 25% cyborg and 62% superhuman specimen. he's so dope, that not only do the laws of boxing technique not apply to him or his stlye, but neither do the laws of mathematics (hence explaining the su****iously high aforementioned percentage total).
Everyone knows that his lapses in performance occurred only after the almighty Zeus took away his immortal powers to teach him the lesson of humility. After overcoming his hubris, Roy was granted his old powers back, which he will put to good use in slaying the evil Italian Dragon of Wales....
I think the best way for you to understand Roy's indomitable power is to watch this video:
Did he train with McCallum, or was it that he was inspired after fighting him? BTW, what McCallum performances do you recommend, I would like to see him at his best.
Yo I checked out Andre Dirrell after seeing it in your sig and dam is he good.
Which Ali and Leonard fights have you seen to base that comparison on?
Loads of ones. The one that sticks in my mind for Ali is Cleveland Williams when Ali boxed superbly, with Leonard I would take probably his first victory over Hearns. When I say technically better, I mean in terms of all around boxing ability, tactics, movement, defence, going forward, going back. I think both Leonard and Ali were both more technically complete fighters than Jones and showed it in a range of fights across their careers. Look at the variation between young Ali and old Ali, or between the way Leonard fought Duran the first and second times. Also, just as Jones could throw all kinds of onorthodox punches, Ali had a similar talent defensively. I'm sure you've sen the gif of him just moving his head out of the way of punches with his arms by his waist and not moving his feet. Crazy!

He is quite good, but really the sig is my little joke. Its my prediction for a couple of years from now that when calzaghe has retired and maybe beat Jones and Pavlik, many people will start saying he ducked Andre Dirrell.
As I said, i do think Dirrell has talent though, which was why I noticed him, good speed in particular. He's someone to look out for in the SMW division.

And a wicked Jab. A hard jab which reminds me of Mayweather's jab at 130-135.

Yes. In the fights I've seen his jab has been his major weapon, though others tell me that in the fight he stopped Hanshaw (which Jones couldn't do!) he showed even more attacking skill and really mixed it up. There is some suggestion that he may be a bit of a light puncher, but his power looks OK to me, I think its because people compare him to his brother, who was/is a legitimate heavy hitter.
