36 is awful old for a bantamweight. I will be rooting for Penalosa but Mares just may be too young and quick for him at this stage.

Gerry is a very savvy boxer but as his age, his reflexes can decline at any point. Seems like that's what Mares team is banking on.

Jhonny said he was weight drained making bantam. I mean the dude is 5'7 while Penalosa is 4'8.
Joking but Penalosa is a small guy but had a good chin.
He fought a lot of people back in the day but the money was in Asia where he stayed.
He also quit for a couple of years and came back.
He used to give Pac hell in sparring when Pac was coming up.

He's a well respected fighter, for good reason.

I don't like this fight for Mares yet, he should have taken a step up against a more velnerable opponent. It's winnable but very tough, Penalosa is just a tough guy to beat, beatable, but almost impossible to look good doing it.
