Mares is a very good prospect, but I think he is not evolved enough to take on someone with the experience and craft of Penalosa.

Well I'm not sure if he "deserves" it, but beating Gabi with a TKO 2 usually does the trick. He hasn't fought a top ten contender at Bantam I think, but Hasegawa has been taking most of them.

I'd say more like Maruqez, but then you can say Marquez is a poor mans Ricardo Lopez. Mares imo, has improved a lot since joining Nacho Berstein, he's a good student this picking up on everything Berstein has tought him so far.

peņalosa is older at 36 but his performance is like he is in his mid 20's. mares is good but i doubt if he has the ability to box with jerry. this is the fight jerry really wanted. mares is a bigger name than rocha.

if mares sticks with jerry, he will be in trouble.

ponce de leon and jhonny gonzalez can attest to that.

****, this could even outdo the Pac-Olden Boy match for serious boxing fans. Mares has great skills, well see if he's truly for real. He's facing one of the most durable tactitcians of the sport. Gerry's old now but he got the skills to win against Mares.
