There is little middle ground on this fight. I can't remember too many people who thought this fight could have gone either way and/or thought the right man won. You either thought Whitaker won and was robbed or thought Ramirez won. You already know the popular opinion here. The 5 or so posters who have come through this thread saying they thought Whitaker was robbed obviously reinforces that notion.

I have had arguments before like this with other posters on this site. Most recently on Toney/Griffin II. It really got to the point where we were debating the effectiveness of jabs to convince each other about rounds won....going RBR, punch for punch. Pretty sad. I don't have the energy to do that here, but I will still maintain my opinion of Whitaker winning that fight by a relatively comfortable margin.

At least you presented an argument though. Better than "Whitaker ran that whole fight"...a personal favorite of mine.

I love Whitakers "running". Its beautiful. Unfortunately, He was getting hit while he was doing it that night. He adapted to the right hooks in the later rounds and started turning his head with them, but he really had some holes in his defense that night, and he was not presenting much offensively.

Was he over confident? Probably, was he under prepared? It wouldn't surprise me, he looked a tad soft. Did he lose the fight? I think he did.

Is he still the best southpaw to ever lace up a pair of boxing gloves? Without question.
