    Whitaker vs Ramirez I

Most people seem list this fight among the worst robberies of all time. I have a feeling most of those people have not taken the time to watch the fight recently.

    Here is my scorecard.

    Whitaker - Ramirez I

    1) 10 - 9

    2) 10 - 9

    3) 9 - 10 Right hook counters are connecting flush on Petes jaw when he tries to go down stairs.

    4) 10 - 9 Whitaker comes off gas at end of round, close round.

    5) 9 - 10 Whitaker not throwing, Ramirez is landing some good shots.

    6) 9 - 10 Whitaker looks very uncomfortable. Ramirez best round so far. Whitaker doing lots of holding.

    7) 10 - 10 Very close round. Whitaker landed crisp combinations, but Ramirez landed some crisp hard left hands.

    8) 9 - 10 Whitaker is visably fatiged, he is holding every chance he can, he tries to fight in spurts, but its all Ramirez.

    9) 10 - 9 Whitaker although tired digs deep and wins the round with lots of crips jabs and a few combinations.

    10) 9 - 10 Whitaker tired, lots of moving, not much punching, lots of holding.

    11) 9 - 10 Most exciting round of the fight. Whitaker doesn't have the gas to move, is forced to stand and trade.

Lou Dova "You need a good round this round Pete"

    12) 10 - 9 Pete fought well. Lots of holding, but he landed the better punches.

6 round to 5 with 1 round even for Jose Luis Ramirez

In my opinion, Whitaker's biggest flaws in this fight were his inability to block Ramirez right hooks, and pulling back and getting caught with lunching left hands. Every time Whitaker tried to go down stairs, Ramirez raked a hard right hook across his face.

I don't see how Ramirez could have won 5 rounds of that fight.

I don't have a scorecard handy, but I've seen this fight enough times to know that you must be hallucinating. This fight wasn't even close.

I can remember watching this fight on ABC or CBS live and thinking how Whitaker was taking him to school. I was incredulous when the decision was read. No way Ramirez deserved that fight.

I've seen the fight several times and always viewed it as a clear decision for Whitaker. The positives for Ramirez were too few or far between. Little difference in their two bouts outside of location and judges. Whitaker controlled the action in both the first and second fight, the judges just got it right the second time.

Even the fans in the attendance were booing the decision.

Go watch it. I have it on TiVo, just watched it a few times. I would not argue with a draw. Whitaker by 1 point is a stretch.

I've watched it 5 or 6 time, I haven't been able to give Ramirez more than 4 rounds and I was being kind to him.

                  You are wrong.

The second fight was a completely different fight. Whitaker's magnum opus. Absolute perfection. This fight was full of mistakes and I challenge anyone to score the fight without bias and come to a dominant victory for Whitaker.

I have a feeling that you have not taken the time to score the fight, but instead have watched it to see Whitaker.
