Usain Bolt may be the fastest man in the world, but being a top flight NFL reciever encompasses much more than speed. Just like throwing a good punch is a fraction of what you need in MMA.

A boxer does have a punchers chance, but your ****** assumption that it would occur as much as 20% of the time has no basis.
but a boxer isnt gonna jab right hand bob weave slip slip in a street fight he's gonna be throwing flurries of punches

I see your point. Where your argument goes wrong though, is that MMA isn't so much a compilation of many different fighting techniques. Like saying "oh boxing? that's just a tiny part of the skillset that you need to succeed in MMA". This is simply not the case. MMA is a whole nother style of fighting in and of itself. Just because you throw punches in an MMA match doesn't make it boxing.
Boxing is utilized in MMA though. But, as I said earlier in the thread, the style of boxing you see in a straight boxing match VS an MMA fight is different.

Certainly a top level boxer will have better hands than an MMA fighter, but it truly is a fraction of what you need to be succesful. That isn't meant to degrade boxing, its just reality.

Regarding sugars post above, throwing flurries would likely lead to a boxer being taken down easier. I'm talking strictly MMA/boxing matches here, not street fights though.

Put a big strong, accurate boxer against a jiu-jitsu black belt where the fight is allowed to go to the floor, and im sorry but alot of the time the boxer will be subbed straight away.

For example, Butterbean does terribly in MMA, getting knocked out in very low level fights in England, and slightly past the point with Raymond Daniels who is a kickboxer got submitted in his current only MMA fight. Being a kickboxer, he would have an advantage over a boxer going into a fight because he would know how to block kicks and other strikes that arent involved in boxing.

If Mayweather went in and beat 3 top MMA guys at his weight, for example Urijah Faber etc then id be more open to what boxing purists are saying, but for now its not a valid argument.

Its like comparing greco-roman to boxing, they are completely different sports.
How can you say theres more diversity, yeah theres different styles of boxers but in MMA there is strikers that use muay thai, kickboxing etc, wrestlers who use greco or folk style, and BJJ/jiu-jitsu/judo world champs who are better on the floor. The best fighters are good at all three of these different parts and thats what makes them good.

The thing is, an MMA fighter, unless he was previously a high-level pro boxer would get hammered in a boxing match. And a boxer, no matter who it was, Floyd, Manny, anyone, would get battered in an MMA fight due to the fighters wrestling and submissions.

There is no point in this argument.
Your saying MMA is not "Pretty much a street fight"?

Well thats odd. I could of sworn that MMA fan parade around the fact that it is "just like a streetfight"

MMA fans = Almost always insecure about thier sport and Uber hypocritical.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH! AN MMA FIGHTER LASTING MORE THEN A MINUTE WITH TYSON IN BOXING RULES? HAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAH!

But srsly. Again your Bolt reference is completley out of place.

Ild say prime tyson has AT LEAST a 20 percent chance of landing a decent punch against anyone who doesnt train pure boxing.

Put a boxer in with any of the wrestling or jiu-jitsu guys they wouldnt have a single chance, they wouldnt know where to go, what to do, how to defend or attack.
Atleast MMA fighters know basic boxing.
know basic boxing?? you ****in kidding me???

these guys just throw random ass wild shots

any jackass can throw a sloppy punch, just cos he can make a fist and swing dont make it boxing ya dumb ****.

ive watched a lil UFC just to check it out, it was utter crap

****ty swings, then tangled up on the floor mounting each other, that isnt fighting, thats bull****

and the thing is, its only popular in america, and maybe in a few countries where it has rubbed off slightly like Oz, but theres no real interest or participation over here, just a bit of hype thats rubbed of from the US
