26-year old WBC/WBA titlist Cristian Mijares (35-3-2, 14 KO) has a potentially great fight lingering in his future. He also has another pretty good one. Both would be unification battles sure to garner strong attention amongst the Boxing press and plenty of speculation amongst dedicated fans. Both would, with victory, strengthen what is now almost consensus recognition that the Mexican technician is one of Boxing’s best fighters at any weight. [details]

Good article. I liked the Mitchell-Mayweather comparison.
Also something to note, Koki Kameda fights on this undercard. Could this set up a fight for them next? I'd much rather see a unification bout with someone on HBO in november. Mijares would beat Koki Kameda pretty damn easy. There is footage of them sparring on youtube and Mijares goes ridciously easy on him. He just lets Koki bully him around the ring and rarely throws anything (it's obvious Mijares is going light, not actually effected by Koki's agression) and when he did (normally the right jab) it landed. Kameda has **** defense or atleast did in that sparring session.Comment

It's probably one of the most overmatched yes. The sad thing is...he probably could have picked a worse oppennot. If Sasakul managed to get a 12 fight winning streak then that means there's worse out there.
Still it'll get him some rounds in and hopefully show a great domination. Maybe a Mayweather-Gatti type performance.Comment

Yeah, but he fights 4 times a year and is a huge star in mexico already. He's fought in a lot of countries and honestly how much exposure is he going to get? The dude weighs only 115 pounds. A lot of people won't notice him because he's a star.Comment

Yeah I love Mijares. Just watching the vid in your sig makes me want to watch more of him. I loved the Arce fight in particular. Not long before Mijares is top 3 p4p I don't think.Comment

I like the way Mijares keeps busy. Yeah he may take a fight or two that may not be greatly matched, but it's better than sitting around and waiting for something to happen. Plus he gets to stay sharp. He's good enough to where he'll eventually get those big fights. I mean he can get fights like Montiel, Donaire, and Darchinyan eventually. I would rather see him take these type of fight then sit around like Donaire has.Comment
