    Amir Khan: My thoughts

Ok, Firstly I want to say; Yes I am a Brit, But no I do not swing of Amir Khans nuts. So believe me when I say, I am pretty unbiased in this post.

    First off. His opposition:

His opposition hasn't been great, But not **** either. Most of his best wins, are over guys who have seen better days and/or come from lower weight classes (Snt Claire, Gomez, Limond) however, isn't it the same with most prospects? Test them against some experienced verterans before throwing them in the deep end. With that said, He needs to step up soon, but this Presoctt guy doesn't seem to be a step in the right direction. He has a good record, and looks like a puncher but a closer look shows he has only fought about 4 opponents with winning records. One of which (10-0-1) he only took an SD over.

Now, His main weakness. His chin:

I think we are all in agreement that Khans chin is subpar. However, does that really mean he will never become a champ? In a world where we have 2 undisputed champions with weak chins (Haye, Klitschko) I don't think it does. But then again, consider Oscar De La Hoya, who is viewed as having a great chin, he was dropped by smaller guys early in his career. Could it be that making the 135 pound limit may be affecting Khans chin? Maybe, We will have to see. As of now, I say his chin is a real weakness and he needs to protect it if he plans to get far.

    Defense:

So far, his defense has been pretty much aweful. He should not have been caught as much by guys like Gomez and Snt Claire imo, But after watching some footage of Khan with his new trainer he appears to be fixing it up. I hope so, because if he doesn't I don't see him doing all that well

    Overall;

I think Khan is a good prospect. A very flawed prospect, But most the flaws can be ironed out (The exception being his chin). But has shown great handspeed and good accuracy with his shots (See the stoppage of Graham Earl, he was very precise with his shots there) but he too often gets to involved in close and has a terrible inside game. Early against Gomez he moved well, threw fast combos and was looking great, But after dropping him he got too involved in close and ended up in trouble.

His new trainer seems to working on some of his flaws with him, So i look forward to seeing Khans next fight (But i will not be paying for it)

    Thoughts?

At 21 Khan needs to be fighting the very best. He's not even fighting the best in his weight class.

Maybe Kahn's first belt could be a vacant belt over either one of the Peterson bros. This is after Campbell and Cas retire, and the featherweight champs that have moved up have gone elsewhere, cause Kahn will not beat Guzman in my opinion.

Nah, I don't think Khan would.

His only chance would be his size advantage over Guzman, But I Guzman is so slick and fast he would tag Khan pretty easily and run circles around him imo.

The lightweight division is tooo deep for khan to have real success if he wins a title it'll just get snatched off him as soon as he fights a top guy again. Look at who he's up against.

Casamayor - Old but still good, certainly has enough **** to KO khan
Campbell - matured now, good workrate, still physically young, stamina, power to KO khan
Diaz- Former unified titlest, great workrate, good chin, demorolising technique, not a hard hitter though
Guzman- defensive genius, fast, elusive, not the greatest power
Marquez- superb counter puncher, great pure boxer, amazing skill set
          Pacquiao- needs no explainantion

and you have the other like Santa Cruz, David Diaz etc.

I dunno anyone that would beat Guzman though. Marquez has a chance because he's too smart to run into shots, people will say he overextends his punches and reaches a bit with his combinations which is perfect for Guzman, but he only does this against less tactical fighters or when he's overconfident (7th Rd Barrera). Pac also has a chance but he would have to have a Williams-Marg style. he would have to strictly use his speed and not put any mustard behind his punches to conserve his stamina for the late rounds where Guzman will be looking to rely on his feet more.

I'd say Khan would be a good matchup for Diaz, or Katsidis, or one of the peterson bros until he moves up. If he stays at 135 too long, he might have to fight Linares, who I think would also beat him. He could always be one of Valero's first fights at that weight. Who would you have winning that? Also I see Santa Cruz being a good matchup down the road.

All those guys beat Khan, and a few win via Stoppage.

I'm just saying, Khan isn't as **** as people make out.

I am telling you now. Amir Khan can defeat anyone at lightweight.

How about he just defeats someone at lightweight. ie. an actual lightweight. One in the top 10 with a decent KO %. surely Warren must be running out of feather fisted FWs to line up for Khan.
