no, not really at all anymore. They've drifted far away from communism. They don't even teach about Mao in their schoolbooks anymore.

I think it is a load of crap. I have seen Chinese in MMA etc.(K-1 etc)

There is no law or provision that prohibits Chinese from turning pro in boxing. They don't because they are not good enough.

I hope this does not sound racist but...

Take a look at Taiwan. 98 percent Chinese and even the aboriginees are SE Asian types racially similar to Chinese.

They pour a lot of money in Olympic sports. How well are they doing?

4 Bronze medals from a country of 22 millions with GDP per capita exceeding 20000 US dollars.

Yes there are 1.4 billion people in china but unfortunately 95 percent of them are Chinese. (But you may see some good fighters coming out from ethnic Mongols, Kazakhs etc. They have a lot of practice at home beating up on Chinese.)

So since they spend a lot of money in soccer will I see China as the WC champs?

You don't know Chinese and then you REALLY don't know Chinese, especially the men.

China is a one party state ruled by the communist party, but it no longer has a communist economic system & the political administration is much different.

Boxer's are allowed to turn pro & travel, but up until recently the chinese haven't been that interested.

This is likely to change big time with the two gold medals, & you can expect the chinese to take to boxing in a pretty big way over the next few years, although it will take some time for them to organise into the pro game.

The more competition the better as far as I'm concerned, & China's a hell of a market to expand into.

but i get the impression they aren't too interested in boxing as a nation, and potentially talented boxers never even give a thought to taking up boxing

if there was more interest in boxing(which holding major bouts there would lead to), a higher percentage of their population would try their hand at it and more good fighters would emerge
