Duran was the more compete fighter but Ali was a better fighter in my eyes if that makes sense? Ray Robinson is the greatest though just to clear up my view

Ali never came close to a 10 count. That is the difference between the 2. Duran is one of 5 fighters I rank as the best ever. Ali is the best ever. In terms of overall skills, Ali had more. Ali wasn't a body puncher, but his precise punching to the head has rendered men in Gorilla suits incapable of finishing fights.
True Ali never came close to a 10 count, and never gave up when the going got tough.
I dont see how Duran really has a better resume either, Ali fought and beat all the great HWs during the Golden Age.
Ali for sure. Duran was great though.

i might take some heat for this but duran did things ali didn't.

ali being a heavy never won titles in multiple divisions.

ali never had to move up in weight aside from being a light heavy in the ams and jumping to heavy as a pro.

ali fought very few guys that were bigger than him. duran as a natural lightweight won belts at welter , super welter and middle against much bigger guys.

and also i think ali doesn't have a win better than duran's over sugar ray.

i'm not gonna bother explaining or even thinking about who is greater both can be argued were the greatest in their respective divisions.

it'd be like asking where's a better place to live maui or tahiti.

You can't bring up divisions when it comes to comparing heavies and fighters who fought in lower weights. You have a good argument when you say Duran beating Leonard is greater than any fighter Ali ever beat. I disagree totally as usual LHT. Duran was 72-1 when he fought Sugar. It was not that big of a weight advantage for Sugar. Sugar as good as he was showed his inexperience in this fight. He fought the wrong fight. Ali never fought the wrong fight. Duran's biggest wins came against De Jesus, Sugar, Moore, and Barkley. We can name some others, but Ali's best wins were against, Liston, Foreman, Norton, Shavers, Quarry, Patterson, Frazier, Bonavena, Chuvalo, the list goes on and on. Ali could dance for 15 and beat you with a jab. He could fight you on the inside, he could trade with you, he had a blazing left hook, a good right hand. He could do it all. He had a cast iron chin. Beating
Sugar is one thing. Beating Liston, Foremna, and Frazier is another lol. Ali best ever.

i know it's a disadvantage for heavies to compare them to smaller fighters that can jump divisions but jumping divisions is very hard to do and the little guys should get credit for it.

i know ali's wins are more distinguished than roberto's but i'm talking about head to head one win against one win. not the whole resume.

liston , frazier and foreman were great fighters but individually which win was a greater win than a lightweight duran beating the welterweight sugar ray? how many losses did sugar ray have in his prime? do you consider either of those 3 individually greater than sugar ray?

duran's boxing skills and defense is very underrated. everybody remembers his power and "hands of stone". ali had one of the fastest hands ever and certainly the fastest and best footwork but he did have some weaknesses , however slight.

              btw , where's my avatar , boof?!?!?!?
