I can see why it's not illegal. I mean once the bell rings you're supposed to defend yourself at all times. However, it could be called unsportsman-like behavior due to the fact that nearly all fighters touch gloves before they start throwing.
It's a judgement call. Personally if I were a fighter I would always touch-up before throwing anything, but that could leave me like Torres there.Comment

Yeah, this dilemma could be summed up as a judgment call. Technically, it's not illegal, but it's a shame that happened. Normally, if you are going to touch gloves, it should be done with the worst case scenario in mind, you always have to be prepared. The guy in the blue trunks walked past his opponent with a very casual strut as if the other guy was going to pat his glove with the same calm demeanor. It didn't happen. Normally, in competitions I always shake the hands of my opponents and it's very respectful to do so in boxing, but in this sport you have to do it veeeeeeeeeeeeeery cautiously. Honestly, if I were a boxer, I wouldn't try that **** unless I were certain that the other guy wouldn't try that. Most highly ranked fighters wouldn't try that, but I think I've seen some rare fights where fighters have shamelessly attempted it. If I remember correctly, Mayweather tried that in his second pro fight against Reggie Sanders. After a clinch, both fighters were separated and admonished by the referee. Mayweather stuck out his glove as if to apologize and when Reggie was about to pat it, Mayweather attacked. Unsportsman-like? Yeah. But you have to be ready for anything. You let your guard down for one second and it's over, there aren't any chances to retry.Comment
