The fist is the delivery vehicle. One of the first things you learn in boxing is to clinch your fist tight just before impact. The harder the delivery, the greater the impact. Some fighters even do grip exercises to create a tighter fist longer, cuz it becomes exhausting to do that over several rounds. So yes, the way the hands are wrapped has a great effect on the damage a fighter in inflict. And yes, after the Hopkins fight, Tito's power ******. Freakin' cheater.

I don't believe there is any way you can wrap your hands illegally that would add to your punching power, unless you soak the wraps in plaster like Panama Lewis did. And I'm not even sure that works that great because plaster becomes brittle upon impact.

As for Hopkins not getting hurt against Trinidad, that's because Hopkins was hardly caught clean. 'Nard keeps his chin tucked into his neck the entire fight, it's almost impossible to catch him on the button, therefore it's almost impossible to hurt him.

The adding water theory sounds interesting, but it's not up my alley so I can't comment on that technique.

Still, I think Hopkins making Tito re-wrap his hands just before the fight was more a psychological tactic than anything.

In my opinion, he has cheated at one point or another, all his career like the OP says? No. It is also very telling in my opinion that a fighter that hits as hard as him has never had any wrist or fist problems in his entire career.

then you've never had your hands wrapped well. the difference is immense, you feel like you're hitting with explosives instead of fists. If they were wrapped illegally (I.E how most pro fighters wrap in the gyms) then he'd hit much harder than without

If your hand is wrapped in something hard, Your hand will break, Its that ****ing simple.

Hopkins was playing mind games when he brought up the wraps thing, Trying to **** with Titos head.

His power was just as good after the Hopkins fight, He knocked out Mayorga for ****s sake.
