In the 3rd fight he caught Jones in the 8th rnd and almost got KTFO again.

He is human just like anybody else. I also believe when he fought Johnson he was still worried about getting KTFO, so he really didn't throw any punches and ended up getting KTFO again.
I believe he would beat Johnson were they to fight again, but I would still see him being to gun shy against Tarver. I mean Johnson is gonna be coming in and be right there but he doesn't do anything special, just a good solid fighter. A confident Jones is too much for Johnson, and he isn't really sneaky or scary like Tarver. Tarver fights with fear in his eyes, he also fights tall too, so he doesn't set himself up for counters. Tarver does things when you think he's not going to because he looks as if he is scared to death in the ring, then all of the sudden he will throw a bomb out of the blue. Roy, IMO didn't want to get caught again. Hell Tarver wasn't even looking at Jone's when he caught him with that right hook in the 8th. Tarver throws "get away from me" punches when he fights Jones, and they just so happen to be hard as hell if he catches you clean.
So as long as Jone's isnt fighting Tarver, he should be OK. I think he can beat Tarver, but Jone's memory of that KO wont let him do what he wants to do.
Excellent point on Tarver throwing "Get Away From Me" punches. Very few people picked up on that. Bernard Hopkins did. That's why he sought him out right after that fight. Tarver-Jones III was the blueprint he used to beat the Magic Man.

I don't know if any one else had noticed that Buddy McGirt was all over Tarvers ass, asking him what was wrong, your showing too much respect. Jone's beat his ass in the 1st round and Buddy had to get on him. Tarver didn't like being called out like that and the rest is history.

I had a GREAT conversation with Buddy one night about Jones, Hopkins and Tarver. Incidentally, he still thinks Jones will beat Hopkins. Anyway, here's a story for true boxing fans:

I'm not sure if many are aware of this but long before he was a trainer, Buddy McGirt claimed he had the blueprint for beating Roy. He said Eddie Futch told him a few weeks before his death. Futch considered Roy the fastest gun in the West. He said the only person who could beat Roy was the one who was willing to take his bullets in order to dole out his own. You'll notice McGirt kept telling Tarver in the first fight, "punch when he punches!" Tarver did this perfectly in the rematch, by the way.

Anyway, McGirt refuses to divulge the rest of his lessons from Futch re: Jones. But he did say that in the third fight against Tarver, he told Tarver to start roughing him up because, by the fifth round, Jones was dominating Tarver and he could see his confidence rising with each passing second. He wanted Roy to remember the knockouts. So Tarver began the sixth on the attack, pushing Jones back and wailing away. Roy went into his shell and never seriously threatened after that.

Plenty more to the story but what a night picking his brain on those fighters!

Calzaghe in his prime would beat archie moore, and james toney, he would dominate them

Who the hell said anything about white fighters? If you can fight you can fight. No matter what color Joe is, he should have had his ass over here fighting a long time ago. His pops knew better.
