Hopkins Biggest Mistake was he didnt Go for the kill on Calzaghe!

Hopkins could of took him out early cause his punches were hurting slapmaster.
He should of took him out after he dropped him but hopkins thought he would gas out.
Hopkins could of just brawled with slapmaster and knocked him out withing 5 rounds.

But he decided to try and be slick knowing his legs are not like they used to be and he got tired in the later rounds and slapmaster started winning on show similar to juan diaz winning with slapping sound effect noises.

I didn't see Calzaghe get hurt in the fight, the knockdown was a mixture of being off balance and a shoulder push from Hopkins, the only other time you could say Calzaghe was stunned was at the end of the 7th (?) round but that was mainly because of him being off balance as well.

If Hopkins had expended more energy earlier it would have been in vain IMO. Joe wasn't hurt.

Had he gone for the kill the fight might have looked like Pavlik-Taylor. Hopkins was exhausted in the end, and if he had spend energy going in for the kill I seriously doubt he would have lasted the distance.

I agree...Joe was still there head wise! Bernard did the right thing! He studied Joe well enough to know that Joe gets up off the floor and FIGHTS harder! ask Byron Mitchell

Calzaghe was a little hurt, but not enough where Hopkins could go for the kill and finish him off. Especially when 43 years old. He would have just been wasting precious energy.

Calzaghe was not hurt. He was embarrassed and a bit shocked to have been knocked down in the first. He went bright red from embarrassment. If Hopkins had tried to go for the kill it would have done nothing. Calzaghe would not be knocked out by Hopkins, in any round, let alone in under five.

Geez you are overly dramatic Domain. Even if Calzaghe was hurt, it is unlikely Hopkins would have been able to stop him. He's not exactly the type you could stop easily, especially for a 43 year old guy who can't keep up a steady attack for more than a minute or two at most. It would have ended much worse than it did if he had tried to go for the kill.

Silencers, as usual, was right in that it was hardly even a legitimate knockdown. It was legitimate, but in the sense that it was as much being off balance and Hopkins pushing him as it was the punch that put him down.

Hopkins is overated, he got beat by a girl slapping Welshman.

                    Enough said.

And I'll think what you'll find actually happened is that when Hopkins put Calzaghe down.....he was like "WTF?....he's got back up.....the mans made of cast iron steel....**** this ****"
