The great Salvador Sanchez

had Sanchez not died in that car crash, he would have ended up top 15 p4p all time. hes probebly the second best Mexican fighter of all time record wise, and thats saying a hell of a lot since he only held the title for about 2 or 3 years. he was only 23 or something when he died even...his career would have been short either way, he would have been done around 30, but a lot could have happened in those 7 years.Comment

in my opinion he's better than chavez.had Sanchez not died in that car crash, he would have ended up top 15 p4p all time. hes probebly the second best Mexican fighter of all time record wise, and thats saying a hell of a lot since he only held the title for about 2 or 3 years. he was only 23 or something when he died even...his career would have been short either way, he would have been done around 30, but a lot could have happened in those 7 years.
he died at 22 and beat a great fighter[gomez],the greatest at his weight before he moved up.without a doubt.you would never see him get outboxed or outbrawled.Comment

Salvador Sanches was what very few fighters are, a complete package.
To me he was the epitome of the perfect boxer or the closest to one.
Most memorable fight for me was the Gomez fight. I was stationed in Panama
and watched it with a bunch of Rican friends who of course were rooting for their homeboy. I wasn't even sure myself if Sal could beat him. The fight was hyped up big time favoring Gomez because of his undefeated record and what he had done against Pintor (I think it was him). Not to mention that Gomez had taken on a nutrionist and was on some space age diet/training regiment. Boy, did that go out the door. Great fight either way....
Damn I kind of just gave away my age (48) BWTF...this isn't ******* or some other **** like that....
Oh well the good ole days.Comment

If you look at Sanchez's last 3 fights (Cowdell, Garcia, & Nelson), he didn't look so fantastic. It could have been the weight, lack of a big-name foe, or the fact that he could have been burnt out. So, I am not certain we didn't already see the best he had to offer.
I believe a seasoned, more matured Azumah Nelson would have defeated him. He gave Sanchez hell, despite being a young, 15-fight substitute.
All that said- a great, great fighter. Beautiful style, & satmina like few others in historyComment

you make a good point. I didnt think he looked bad at all in the Nelson fight, but those other two he wasnt so great. I always assumed that it was because he didnt have an amazing opponent in front of him, so he didnt care as much. you also have to remember he was defending his title like 3 or 4 times a year, Im sure that took a bit out of him.If you look at Sanchez's last 3 fights (Cowdell, Garcia, & Nelson), he didn't look so fantastic. but there are a lot of unanswered questions about him. Really goes to show how good Azumah Nelson was, giving him that kind of trouble so early in his career and everything. very overlooked fighter.Comment
