    Andre Ward Recovering, To Return in Early 2009

    2004 Olympic Gold Medal winner Andre Ward (16-0, 11KOs) will not see action for the rest of 2008. BoxingScene.com was informed that Ward recently underwent minor knee surgery and right now is recovering with a planned return in the works for early 2009. [details]

    Disappointing, I'd have expected him to be in title contention already.

      He's had a history of injury problems I believe. Hopefully he can clear them up asap.

        Shady. Injuries have slowed this guy down so much, its getting pretty annoying. I was really looking forward to his possible fight with Brian Vera.

          Is it me or does ward look a little small for 168...i think could go down to 160 but i guess the big fights are at 68 newayz.

            Vera would be a good test for him; a difficult tune-up against a guy who's got a name at the moment. Then he can move on to someone like Miranda or Pascal before taking on the big boys in the division.

            What about a matchup with Andre Dirrell? Both these guys are coming up, a victory over the other would definitely set the winner apart as the new "it" guy in the division.

              no way. ward fought at 178 in the amateurs. thats where he got the medal. he is fine at 168... any more would be dangerous...

                    Wow. I didn't see that one coming. Glad to see that Ward will fight big fights in 2009. I was never really intersted in the Steve Forbes fight.
