What is the best display of boxing brilliance you have ever seen in a fight? What made it so good?
Mine is probably Sugar Ray Leonard's defeat of Tommy Hearns, but there are a lot of candidates. It might just be that the balance of the fight swung so drastically too and fro, but the way Sugar ray showed off boxing skill, tremendous heart and cold blooded tactical calculation means that for me, that one just about tops the pile.
What's yours?
Leonard lost too much of that fight for it to count as one of the best, in my humble opinion.
1. Frazier over Ali
2. Duran over Leonard
3. Jones over Toney
Hmmm, difficult to say. There have just been so many. My favourites are probably Duran vs De Jesus 2, 3 and Leonard 1. As IMDAZED said Nelson/Fenech 2, I thought 1 was pretty great as well. Fenech should have joined Leonard, Duran and Hearns as the only guys to have won titles in four different weight divisions as well as being the only guy in history to do it undefeated, as well as coming off a two year lay off straight into it. ****ing corrupt mother****ing c*nts! Highly impressive against a fighter as brilliant as Nelson. Nearly as impressive as Nelson's beat down of him in their second fight!
Poor Fenech. That decision broke him.
Of course the usual recent ones like Calzaghe/Lacy/Kessler, Mayweather vs Gatti/Hatton/etc, RJJ vs Toney, Toney vs Jirov are all great as well.

Mine personally was Ali v. Liston how he would slip 5-7 punches in a row without landing or attempting to use a punch...to me thats EXTREMELY impressive...that shows a lot of great footwork and defense; sometimes those things are highly overlooked in boxing.
whenever someone brings up ali thats the image i get in my mind right off the bat; the rounds he would constantly slip punches over and over and then spend the rest of the round sticking and moving and looking really dominant.
Other than that there are some performances i've been impressed with in more recent times...
like diego corrales coming back in the 10th round of the first castillo fight...JMM coming back after 3 knockdowns against pacquiao to earn a draw.
pacquiao whipping barrers ass so badly in 2003
hopkins dominating tito
roy jones dominating toney
mayweather dominating chico (rip)
judah ko over spinks (oh yeah supa judah baby)
frazier over ali in fight 1
Is posting on old threads bad on this forum? Should I have started a new one? Anyway, I guess I'll find out because...
I just rewatched Floyd Mayweather vs Diego Corrales. I'm no ***** (well, maybe a little bit - any boxing fan should at least admire his skill) but hoooly **** Floyd was punch-perfect from the first bell.
I can't believe you guys didnt mention Mayweather vs Undefeated Ko artist Dieago C. Mayweather put on a boxing class that was flawless in every way. Speed, Power,Accuracy, Timing, Foot work, Defense, ring general ship, and stamina. He took a undefeated world champion killer and destroyed him.
