    Define and explain “Natural Weight”

What exactly is natural weight?? Don’t most boxers walk around above the weight they fight so most technically dropped weight to make their weight class.

How do you know someone natural weight class, where they started fighting first or what weight they feel comfortable in??
Example Margarito started at lightweight I THINK and is now fighting at WW, what you would say was his natural weight.

Would you say WW is Mayweather natural weight or that he has grown into a WW? Boxer can come accustom to moving up weight. Paul Williams I see a lot of people his size naturally and don’t have any health issues except being skinny. C

ould Mayweather move down to 135 his previous weight class? Could Williams and Margarito both fight at 160 without saying it;s not their natural weight

Is Natural weight is when a boxer is around 21 to 22 and stop growing in height but still is filling out his body and when they reach their peak that is their natural weight.
    Explain this **** to me

Good question..my guess would be..the weight at which a fighter can get to and stay at comfortably, without depleating his fighting skills.

I don't know about natural weight. People have all kind of different opinions about what natural is. For example, Ricky Hatton fans seem to want to make it out like Mayweather is sooooooooooooo much bigger than Hatton (ex. see above).

I'll say this much about "natural weight" it's not natural for people to fight at 122 and come into the fight at a fit looking 138 (ex. Celestino Caballero) or fight at 130 and come into the fight at a fit looking 146 (ex. Manny Pacquiao, Erik Morales). To me that's just balant disregard for the weigh-in system and it's dangerous. Look what happened when Arturo Gatti fought Joey Gamache.

But since boxing attracts so many sadists who think the only thing exciting about the sport is seeing someone get knocked senseless, seeing guys come in 15-20 lbs. over their weigh-in weights is never going to change.

i agree with the secong poster....a weight you can make without to much trouble...i dont think and boxer walks around on fight weight...because at fight weight they have just done 8-12 weeks hard training...so you will definetly put weight on after...as long as you dont take it to a hatton extreme lol.

i walk around at 182 but if i was a boxer i could make 175 with no trouble....

Like a few have already pointed out. It's the weight where you have to lose lbs to make it, or add lbs to stay close that weightclasses maximum weight.

When I fought in the amateurs(this was between 16-21 years old) I walked around 135lbs. The weightclasses I could've competed in were 132 lbs and 139lbs. There was no way I was gonna lose 3 more lbs to compete at 132, it just drained me. But it was also a struggle to add those 4lbs just to be equal to my opponents who were usually around 5'9 - 5'11. That's why I don't know how these pros are able to do it,man. Actually, I have some sort of idea, I used to wrestle in H.S. as well, and from what i observed, the wrestlers did all kinds of crazy stuff just to cut weight, compared to my fellow boxers.

My walk around weight wasn't that much more or less come fight time though.

Most people would say the lowest weight someone would get to without running into too many problems.

This isn't true though, if you think about it for just a minute. It's just what were accustom to and is commonplace in boxing. Doesn't mean it's natural weight. A lot of boxers seriously starve and de hyrdrate themselves to make weigh, that is not natural. A lot then gain a lot of weigh when they step into the ring. That is not natural, undermines the weight classes and is dangerous.

This is a great thread and the topic area has strung up a bit of recent times. I think we need a slight overhaul of the rules, like say another proper weigh in on fight day, whereby there's brackets of tolerance. It needs to be transparent aswell. Fighters with booming up and down is weigh is really bad. The problems getting worse lately not better, it's not good for them or the sport.
