MArgarito was born lucky! (boxing related)

Need to say this because all of those threads about Cotto and Margarito.

I bet any boxer at 147 and below can throw a lot of punches a round and train hard to do so. What get boxers tired is mixing throwing punches(hard punches no just slapping) moving side to side and dodging punches at the same time really gets you tired. Most boxers do this that is why they train to throw precise punches and avoid to overthrow punches because they also have to move around the ring and doge punches for 10 to 12 rounds.

Boxers learn how to throw a punch hard ( the correct way) and a guy like Cotto, Margo etc know how to throw punches hard as hell. You all talking all this stuff about quiting and crap but let's get real here. Margarito did not move at all he just took it all like a freak that he is and kept throwing punches missing a lot of them while Cotto was landing at will with hard punches and combinations.

This thread is for everyone putting Cotto down. But the fact is if Margarito no matter what training he has if he wasn't for that freakish chin he has a lot of people including Mexicans wouldn't have an Idea who he is.

So yes Margarito was born lucky. Even Williams could have KO him with all those punches he landed but that crazy chin was holding on but lost that fight and almost lost that fight with Joshua Clottey. Because of that he is a fun guy to watch but If I where him knowing the pressure that chin can handle I would have train more in the skills dept and avoid loosing to guys who can't hurt me at all and KO their asses by improving the boxing abilities.

PS this is not a knock on Margarito I love watching the guy but you crazy fans need to get your facts straight

Chin is just part of it. His size is also a factor(he didn't look so great against someone his own size ie Williams). But you also have to give credit to Margarita for having a great work ethic. Chin or no chin, a person who doesn't have great stamina would not have been able to absorb those punches from Cotto the way Margarito did, Margarito would not be able to expend all that energy into punching the **** out of Cotto without the hard work in the gym!

I'm still not sold on Marg, but you've gotta appreciate the man's grit and determination!

I made a thread similar to this awhile ago. I also highly agree Margarito's greatest strength is his chin. His defense is primarily his head. Cotto hits hard as **** and the shots he landed I wouldn't be surprised if they take their toll on him later in life or even in his next fight. You know those people that should go down rather than take as much as they do, in the Cotto fight, you wonder how the hell Margarito never went down. And yes, if it wasn't for his chin, Cotto would still be undefeated because Cotto was outboxing him and landing the cleaner-harder shots early on. Anyone else who took the shots Marg did in the 1st half of the fight wouldn't have made it to the 2nd half, that simple.

He wasn't born with talent like Mayweather, Mosley, DLH, Tyson, etc. But on the other hand, he does use the most of what he was given, Chin, gameness(will to win, no matter what the circumstances might be), add the fact that his conditioning is second to none, and that's what offsets his deficiencies. He's never going to outbox anybody, no matter how hard he works in the gym, so he works harder on what has made him what he's right now. He'll never be flashy, but he'll outwork you.

I've been a Margarito fan for years. That being said..I always liked Cotto as well.

Both have great work ethic. Cotto is "heart attack serious" in his approach to training and the sport. Margarito has the determination to get the respect he always should have had.

I have watched that fight five times now. Cotto hit Margarito with terrific shots..punches and combos that would clearly have taken many others out and goodnight. But they just didn't have any effect on Margarito..so much so that not only ddin't they hurt him, but most importantly they took nothing away from his stamina. Amazing to see; especially after the fact.
Margarito, did not back up at all the entire fight..11 rounds of coming forward every round.

However, if Cotto could have lasted the fight, he would have lost by two maybe three points. So in the end a respectable showing, even though Margarito took him down.

If anyone gets the chance to see the fight again (HBO on demand), after the second knockdown, Cotto looks at his corner and shakes his head indicating " I'm through..no more"..then the towel comes in.

I'd like to see a rematch..would be a lot of drama built into that..IMHO.

Read my post again. IT says that a lot boxers today can throw as many punches as Margarito and maybe more a round but the fact they need the energy to do the other stuff like normal boxers do like moving and dodging his opponent punches something margarito don't worry about and not even try to do just comes forward throw punches and take it all. ETC just read the post again

I never thought much of Margarito before and now I think a LOT less of Cotto for losing to him. I've seen guys make Margarito look amateurish (Clottey and Williams), yet Cotto somehow lost to this guy.
