pretty much sums it up. Everyone else needs to take a page out of this fan's book. It's amazing how far just a little thought can lead to an exceptional post. I think I speak for everyone, when I say I 'm tired of seeing posts that make irrational claims of how Joe is scared of Pavlik, or vice versa. It's a pretty easy concept folks, just follow the money trail. The **** talkin in between is just hype and is rarely legit.Comment

Their is a reason Calzaghe chose Jones for his last fight. He would not have fought Jones 5 years ago. He chose him now for his name not the challenge. Lacey, Kessler, Calzaghe, these were all good wins for Joe but not great. Those are 3 fighters in 45 fights. Joe spent 10 years being a euro fighter and to put him in the p4p top 5 you are mental. What means more than if you win is how you win. Pavlik would punch his ****ing lights out and Joe knows it.
U.S,) particularly but not exclusively, Europe, has not produced any kind of a quality fighter in the past 20 years anywhere near Calzaghe's weight. This takes in Calzaghe's title reign and those he could have fought who were established already before he won, and in the first years of, his title.
This is pure silliness, and I'm not going to waste my time enumerating nor pointing out the flaws in this assumption. Calzaghe is a great fighter, as good as most, if not all who have retired undefeated, and much better than some-Marciano for example.
Although he didn't show up that well against Hopkins, tell me who ever did, except Roy Jones, who won 10 rds on Harold Lederman's card, and 9 on Larry Merchant's, although only 8 on each of the judges. And it still wasn't anything like the Roy Jones we came to expect, since he was still young, inexperienced and untested.
Calzaghe definitely is a 1st Rd Hall of Famer. No doubt about it.Comment

You are delusional, Roy Jones wooped Hopkins and he wooped him pretty much in his Prime (some say he was green). Calzaghe looked aweful and almost lost to a 43 year old version.
Lacy and Kessler are extremely overrated, they have done nothing to garner the attention they get.
Pavlik would destroy Calzaghe, his punching power and workrate would bust him up. Lacy never amounted to anything and never would have.
At most Calzaghe is a good contender, he has done nothing but fight clowns for 17? years. If "stepping up" is almost losing to a 43 year old, then that says a lot.
for one, If Jones looked great against a Prime Hopkins, whats that saying for Calzaghe?Last edited by them_apples; 08-17-2008, 06:50 PM.Comment
