Collazo to fight tune-up on Mosley- Mayorga undercard....

So Collazo loses UD to Shane Mosley in 2006, comes back 1 year later to beat a scrub on the Trinidad/Jones under card
and now he's 1 tune up away from a WBC title shot?
how did Collazo even get ranked #1 by the WBC? he's 1-1 his last 2 fights.Comment

I like Collazo a lot as well, I just don't like his inactivity. Fighting a tune-up designed to make you look good is very different than fighting Andre Berto. If Berto can put pressure on Collazo early it'd be interesting to see how Collazo handles it because he wasn't digging it too much against Hatton.Comment

These kind of inquiries always beg the same question. Who should be ranked above Collazo in your opinion?
Remember, you can't rank champions in other organizations.Comment

I thought he did alright against hatton, in fact I thought he won. Also, remember although he hasn't been fighting (which I too don't like), he has been getting plenty of top notch sparring in. For instance, he was Paul Williams'#1 sparring partner for Quintana, and look how prepared Williams came in this time.I like Collazo a lot as well, I just don't like his inactivity. He challenged Mosley for the WBC interim strap which was basically to set up a shot at Mayweather the real WBC champ at the time. He had to be highly ranked to get that shot and losing to Mosley didn't cost his ranking a lot. From there he has pretty much sat on his ranking and probably actually went up based on others fighters dropping out. It is what it is though and alphabet rankings are usually messed up.
Collazo is way better then anyone Berto has ever fought though imo.Comment

Good post. Also let's not forget he had a broken right hand against Mosley (though i still think Mosley would have had him either which way).He challenged Mosley for the WBC interim strap which was basically to set up a shot at Mayweather the real WBC champ at the time. thanks for info.Heres some news....
HBO is barely promoting this Mosley-Mayorga fight. word on the street is mayorga is not clsoe to making 154 by any means. mosley will still fight him but its becoming even more of a circus act so HBO isn't gonna hype it too much. mosley should take him out just like the other A- level fighters who finished him.
Collazo will fight an opponent T/B/A on the undercard at the home depot center. he will look good and then berto is next. after forbes, berto has 3 months to fight luis, or he loses the belt just as easily as he got it (WBC is strict on this now- just ask Dawson).
i will be taking bets on collazo for those who give me odds (berto will be the favorite, and he's the top prospect with amazing talent- come on!). it will be a good fight and i honestly can't predict the winner with my boxing brain, but I like Luis's style- sharp, slick, defensive prowess, SOUTHPAW, can **** or box, fast, not a lot of power, but enough to get respect. Your thoughts?!?...
i also find it strange that showtime isnt promoting more about the campbell/guzman.
some say its the economy and the bigboys don't want to dump more money into boxing promotions.Comment

I thought he atleast deserved a draw but it doesn't change the story early on, which was that it looked as if Hatton was en route to a blowout win. Collazo just didn't seem comfortable dealing with this guy in front of him jumping in his chest, he didn't like the physicality.I thought he did alright against hatton, in fact I thought he won. Once Hatton took his foot off the gas pedal and stayed at medium range it was target practice.
I also question Collazo's desire at times, it's wained in recent fights, atleast to my eyes.Comment

I think his desire is there, he's always just being used as a stepping stone. And I think the only time that it really got to him was against Hatton because it was a huge fight and everyone was waiting for hatton to blow him out and make his name. But Collazo settled in eventually and made a statement of his own. Also look how Mosley fought against him, it's hard to keep your will with a broken right hand against the Mosley that stepped in that night. He wasn't standing in front of him leaping at him with right hands all night. Collazo with one hand had to try to find Mosley. The more discouraged he got, the more Mosley being a veteran would catch him. You can't take anything away from a fighter that had to deal with that for 12 rounds. If that same Mosley fought Cotto, he would have most likely taken the UD, but he stood in front of him and tried to slug (in his own way).I thought he atleast deserved a draw but it doesn't change the story early on, which was that it looked as if Hatton was en route to a blowout win.
