Kessler gets way too much credit for the Calzaghe fight

Let's see. He mentally and tactically imploded after 4 rounds, and spent the next ones, until the last one, looking confused.

This was his first fight against an elite level boxer, and he failed big time.

So why has he come away from that fight with so much credit? Because he made the Calzaghe freaks **** their pants a little by stunning JC with those uppercuts early on?

Added to the fact that I don't particularly rate Calzaghe, thus meaning I don't see it as some creditable defeat.

Imagine a scenario where Kessler's so called mental and tactical collapse was nothing more or less than being outboxed by a superior opponent. Kessler tried hard throughout that fight, its just that most of what he did was not working.

Kessler wasn't even 100% against Calzaghe...He broke his right hand before the fight and couldn't train.

Even though Kessler lost I was still impressed with him...He was injured, went onto Calzaghe's home turf and gave him a tough fight.

Kessler is a good fighter and I believe it was Joes best win , the JC fans pump him up as much as they can because it makes Joe appear better they did the same with Lacy another good fighter but nothing special and less than Kessler , Kessler is good but limited as his last fight showed I have no doubt Pavlik would blast Sartizan out of there quickly , I liked Kessler chances against Joe when it happened but for me Kessler showed his true colors in the JC fight , he is a front runner and will never come from behind and gut out a win , Kessler is like an amateur pro that has no **** in him , you have to be a real fighter in your core when at the highest level and for mine Kessler dont have that prime ingredient and JC was the one that showed it wasnt there .

Kessler only gets too much credit from Calzaghe fans. They think kess is like some god and would beat all the top guys at 160-175 cept Joe. I think the rest of us see Kessler for what he is. A good solid fighter but not a world beater, atleast not right now.

Jesus Christ, let me add that onto the **** I hear from Calzaghe ball polishers:

"If Kessler fell apart and looked average against Calzaghe, it's because Calzaghe was so superior. Kessler would destroy any other MW or SMW."

"If Lacy looks like **** now, it's because Calzaghe ruined him. He was a quality fighter before Joe came along."

"Kessler is better than anyone on Pavlik's resume; everyone knows Taylor lost to Hopkins who Joe exposed as a dirty, tired, old fighter, while Kessler was a great champion."

Someone shoot me in the ****ing head. Please. Now.

I agree with this somewhat. Only because I dont think Kessler was that competitive. I can see Calzaghe winning 9 rounds. He fought well at times, but was ultimately beaten clearly.

Mentally, Kessler was fine, he didn't implode or explode at all mentally, he was always trying to fight for the win, he came out blazing in the last round trying to knock Calzaghe out, that's not a fighter who's mentally done.

Tactically, he couldn't adapt, which was his main fault in the Calzaghe fight, once Calzaghe adapted to his style, Kessler couldn't do anything to get back the advantage but a lot of that had to do with Calzaghe as well.

And he didn't fail big time, he won a few rounds against what many consider the number 2 pound for pound fighter in the world and was giving Calzaghe trouble until he adapted.

He doesn't only get credit for the Calzaghe fight, at least not from me anyway, although he does deserve credit for the performance he put in against Calzaghe.

I agree to an extent. I am a Kessler fan but I still maintain he is nothing more than an exceptional talent with great potential in my eyes until he beats a top level fighter. Putting in a fairly admirable performance against JoeC does not elevate him to that level I don't believe.
