I'm looking forward to this fight because I think Pavlik will lose a close decision, decisively ending the hype. Kelly's just too much of a straight up-and-down fighter for me. Hopkins is much more crafty and is a smart, wily veteran who knows how to use the ring.

I don't think this is that amazing of a fight but I am surprised that it has so much backlash. I don't think its that bad of a fight. Looks like the undercard may be strong too.

Pavlik is not the person to blame for the selection of Hopkins. Calzaghe turned him down. Jones accepted Calzaghe. HBO would not put out enough money to make a Williams fight happen. Abraham defends against Raul Marquez on October 4 and Golden Boy pushed Hopkins ahead of Winky Wright during their negotiations with Pavlik's promoter, Top Rank. In the end, Hopkins was the only road for Pavlik to take.

I was kinda upset at pavlik for taking this nonsense fight but after reading that, it actually makes sense. Hopkins is just a stay-busy fight for pavlik which just goes to show how much pavlik is willing to put it all on the line by fighting a guy like hopkins just to stay active. although they don't mention why they overlooked sturm, other than that, a fight with hopkins makes sense now after that explanation.
