Long Armed Straight Punching in Bunches is a hard thing to overcome. Hopkins I think will try one of two things.

1: He will either try to move to his left like crazy against Pavlik to take his right hand away. He will have some success with it, but he will have to stop to get his own right hand off, which will leave him vulnerable.

2: He will try to get inside and mug Pavlik, which might work, but Pav seems to like mugging on the inside himself (Miranda) and there is no way Hopkins can mantain that for 12 rounds.

His best bet would be to try to get to Pavlik early, hurt him and cut him and work on that.
Good post, I agree. He even said in a '07 interview, which you may have seen, that Calzaghe could beat Pavlik by smothering him since he feels Pavlik needs room to be effective with his punching because of his long arms. He'll probably try the same thing.

I know a fiery by the name of Calzaghe who puts together fiery fisted slaps that do more damage to his gloves than his opponents.

I am not a fan of Pavlik and predict a Hopkins win but he is taking a big risk fighting Hopkins when he could of went for a fighter more suited to his style Abraham who sits in front of you with his hands up and lays on the ropes waiting to be hit.Instead he is fighting an opponent he would gain nothing from not even a belt.Unless he knocks him out in this fight he won't gain any respect.Calzaghe on the other hand will be fighting another anciant legend by the name of Jones and yet he is considered a legend killer when both fighters have one foot in the grave themselves.

Calzaghe was gaining the ring belt and a spot as the numbe two P4P fighter and he fought him nearing the end of his career where he will fight another retirement home dweller.Pavik has plenty of time to add prime fighters to his resume while Calzaghe will go out with two forty year olds.If you don't think Pavlik is taking a bigger risk than Calzaghe did than your a fool as well as a nuthugger.
