Is this really true? I might be missing an in-joke here...
Anyway, quoted from the other thread:
Comfortable but not easy win for Calzaghe.
After the first 6 rounds, it's either 4-2 to Jones or 3-3. Jones has been clever, boxing off the ropes, waiting for Calzaghe to get wild and landing sharp counter punches. Calzaghe sneaks a few in this period purely on workrate.
From round 7 onwards Calzaghe dominates, winning 5-1. Jones doesn't have enough in the tank, Calzaghe has taken to boxing Jones rather than swarming him and the sharp counter punches are now coming from Calzaghe as Jones realises the fight is slipping away.
So my prediction is either 7-5 to Calzaghe or 8-4 to Calzaghe. Competitive, but not close. It's a physical problem for Jones, not a technical one. I just don't think he has enough in the tank to beat Calzaghe over 12 rounds. The only way I see him winning is by a stoppage, but I don't consider that very likely.
How should it go down on Calzaghe's resume? As a very respectable win, but when considered in context, not career-defining at all. Not that I'm sure Pavlik will look too much better historically, but for now it would have been the more creditable fight.Comment
