Charley Burley would have been pound for pound #1 if he fought today

I don't think there's a single past fighter with a single fight that impresses me more then Burley. Watch this, he's perfect all round and he just basically ****s around with the guy.

His jab is so damn good. He throws it out from the side to measure it and it could land whenever he wanted it too. His right hand is a ****ing laser. Whenever he threw combos like in round 9 his hands were so damn fast. The best thing about him is easily his defense. It's just so good and his upperbody movement is the best I've seen hands down.

Also, you can just tell that Burley is just taking it easy with him too. Really only throwing one shot at a time to keep him not from getting knocked out. He even just puts his hands out to hug smith a couple times. I only gave Smith one round (3) because Charley didn't throw really anything. What an impressive performance. If Willie Pep is the best defensive fighter of all time, then goddamn Pep must have been good because Charley's defense is near perfect.

If there's one fight in history I'd want to see that was never recorded on tape, it'd be Burley vs Moore.

He has a draw with Archie Moore and a 2 round KO over future light heavyweight champion Harold Johnson, but he was more of a journeyman. Funny how boxrec describes this bout:

The fight was "bitter and rough, exciting in parts and drab in others." There was much clinching and missing. "Burley plstered Smith constantly with a clubbing right to the chin, and in the exchange of left jabs had the better of the going." Burley would have won the California light-heavyweight title, held by Smith, had the fight been over the 12-round championship distance
There wasn't that much clinching in most of it unless those were the parts cut out. Even then it wasn't anything that bad. It looked like Burley landed shots somewhat often too. His jab was finding the key sometimes, but most of the time it looked like a range finder.

Also Burley was better then Floyd because he was succesful in going to light heavyweight all the way from welterweight.

I think it looks like the fight was chopped and not complete rounds.

I didn't say Mayweather was better just that Burley looks like floyd mayweather in there "style wise."

I think Burley had much better effect using the shoulder roll on the basis of this fight. Burley also used the jab probably more then floyd has used his whole career (not true, but still). I also noticed Burley's righthand was more over the top and sledge hammer like then Floyd's. If anything, he reminds me of an inshape James Toney.

Wonder how he bad he lost to Ezzard Charles and his other defeats after busting up Moore so badly.

Shame there's not much footage of Burley but he must have been one special fighter to be called the best fighter Eddie Futch ever saw.

And from the footage that I have seen of him, Burley would have given Robinson very, very tough fights.

I am sorry but who was out classes who they barely even attacked just pawed at each other.

If mayorga in his prime came at that guy he would be out either of those guys would be out cold they were just posing their and not even really attacking and when they did it was wild.

                    Very boring circling.

I wish that boxing fans would enjoy boxing like those olden timers did they never got bored back then.
