In other words, his "most feared welter" reputation was on the line and he was cornered into taking the fight and LOST. And now he wants to have nothing to do with The Punisher.
If fighters really gave a **** about what the fans and media think, all of the fights we want to see would happen. You're ****ing ****** if you think "public pressure" has any effect on what Margarito or any fighter does. They do what they feel is best for themselves...

yeah that was a ****** question. like if u get beat up by a big bad ass bully. the next time he picks on u, u shouldnt be afraid of him cuz u guys already fought??

        makes no sense

margarito doesnt want to lose he new found fame and big pay days opportunities again. in all honesty if he really felt comfortable about being better than paul williams he would fight him for the amount of money thats being offered. not only that the guy took his belt from him, so not only is the pay good he also has a belt

and if it all boils down to arum then marg shouldnt allow himself to be a puppet....its cool to be loyal but not to be controlled

Great argument. Guess that explains why there are NEVER rematches in boxing...

I don't think Margs is afraid of Williams. I just think the guy wants his time in the spotlight and milk his win off of Cotto for a bit before fighting a guy that seems to have his number. Props to him for even fighting Clottey right now, not exactly a safe fight. Williams needs to fight someone like Clottey or Cotto before running his trap too much.

Secondly Margarito NEVER turned down an offer to fight Cotto, he still had to show Cotto that Margarito was worthy! Cotto NEVER offered him a chance until it actualy arised! And being affraid of the one man that destroyed you in your prime makes sense since that fight has millions of $$$$ riding on it!

For one, Williams was an absolute nobody at the time. The biggest win of his career at that time was Walter Matthyse, which isn't something to brag about. Margarito was taking a ton of risk taking this fight.

Secondly, Margarito turned down an equal payday and a bigger fight with Cotto to fight Williams when he didn't have to. In retrospect, that was probably the ******est thing he's ever done in his career. You think he's going to choose to fight a nobody like Williams over a superstar like Cotto if he's genuinely afraid of Williams? Please...

Finally, people keep bringing up this $4 million offer (which isn't really $4 million for Margarito). Margarito fought Williams for around $1.5 million, which is much less money. Do you seriously think Margarito is going to turn down more than double the money to fight a guy he barely lost to? He's going to turn down double the money for a fight against someone he felt he already beat and that many observers at ringside felt he beat?

To suggest that Margarito has fear of Williams, or any fighter for that matter, is just ridiculous...

                your question is ******

just because u fought someone once doesnt mean ur not afraid of them

for the record ive stated before that i dont think marg is scared of williams, but ur question is dumb

He was told that if he didn't, he would be stripped of his title. He didn't want to be stripped of his little belt. That is how a GB "forces" a fight, sweetie.

If that is the most ridiculous thing you have heard, then you need to get out more.
