Crazy Kim is Crazy Kim! The best damn fighter today and maybe of all time. Just fought another all time great in Anthony 'The Man' Mundine and knocked him on his arse in the third round with his monstrous signature left hook! What a fighter!
I still think Margarito is better though.Comment

Sammy Angott was one hell of a fighter also. Really damn good. From memory he was the first guy to ever beat Willie Pep and the only guy to do so before his plane crash. Very good fighter and a great win for him.Ray Robinson. He is easily the greatest welterweight of all time, he beat Kid Galivan, who is arguebally the second greatest welterweight of any era and Robinson was also unbeaten at welterweight.
''The 5'11 Robinson enjoyed most of his prime years fighting around the 147 pound limit, although more often than that he was pitted against bigger men. After a year at lightweight, in which he beat reigning world champion Sammy Angott, he moved up to out point future world welterweight champion Marto Servo( twice) and Fritzie Zivic( who three months earlier, had narrowly lost his word welterweight title); then stopped Zivic in the return. He went on to beat all of the top welterweights of his era, including Henry Armstrong, but it took six years before he got a shot at the vacant title, out pointing Tommy Bell. He reigned for four years, making five defenses, one of them a points win over future great Kid Galivan, whom he also shaded in a non title fight.''
That was a good peice from my bible of boxing magizine on Robinson's success at welterweight. He also has great wins at middlweight over Lamotta, Fulmer, Carmon Basillio, Bobo Olsin, Rocky Graziano, Randy Turpin and many other bigger champions that he fought while past his true prime and capturing the middlweight title for a record of times. He was also on his way to beating Joey Maix for the light heavyweight title until he ran out of gas. Joey Maxim was the first to beat Olympic gold medalist and hall of famer Floyd Patterson at heavyweight. So yeah, with all of that Sugar Ray Robinson is undoubtably the greatest of all time. Muhammed Ali stated that he ranks himself as the greatest heavyweight of all time but pound for pound, he said its Robinson.Comment

He did get cracked by a bum who had him on serious ***** street, but, the guy was too ****e to follow up on it. If he was fighting one of the better guys he fought they would have put him away. So, he wasn't untouchable. Amazing, but not the greatest ever.i would have to go with a prime roy jones, how can you say he had no defense when he never got touched in his prime. alot of people wont think of jones as the greatest because of his last few fights so i think mayweather should stay retired before he slips a little and ends up like jones.Comment

Robinson fought Angott who was the lightweight champion at the time in a non-title bout a few lbs over the lightweight limit.
If times had been different, perhaps Robinson could've been recognized as the lightweight, welterweight and middleweight champion, maybe even the light heavyweight champion (if not for the heat, but credit to Maxim for staying up)...
Sammy Angott was an ugly fighter and very hard to knock out, it is said that Robinson gave Angott his worst beating up to that point in their first bout. Angott's spoiling style worked very well against Pep, Saddler would use the same style to beat Pep years later.
Robinson also knocked out Puerto Rican middleweight contender Jose Basora in one round, they had fought to a draw earlier in their careers. Basora had wins over Holman Williams, Jake LaMotta and Fritzie Zivic.
George Costner was a good welterweight with wins over Ike Williams, Kid Gavilan and others, Robinson KO'd him twice in one round.
Robert Villemain who had wins over LaMotta, Gavilan, Dauthuille and Basora was TKO'd as well.
There is no lack of good/great fighters on Robinson's record, although some say he could've fought even more.Last edited by TheGreatA; 08-10-2008, 06:51 PM.Comment
