I agree, but it's not like the damage sustained in the earlier rounds was completely erased because he had steadied the boat a little, he was getting his head pounded in. And the outcome was not even in question, it was one-sided from the opening bell.
When you look at old pros (and in Gonzalez's case, he is old before his time because of his style) against young pros, I look at his history and say this is a guy who has nothing to prove by taking an inordinate amount of abuse.
I understand his pride was hurt but if his body gets hurt it's the commission's fault because they have to protect fighters who are too brave for their own good. He has nothing to be ashamed of with his performance, he just shouldn't have been allowed to get his head beat in like that.
If I'm with the commissions and he's trying to apply for a license, I'd put all of the burden on him to prove he should still be boxing because after losing three straight and getting beaten like that can't be a positive omen.
