I agree with you that Arum is smart. He knows that there is a BIG possiblity that Margarito would lose to Williams so he is turning that fight down for him.

Much better for Arum if Margarito losses against Clottey - another fighter promoted by Arum, then losing to an outsider like Williams who is promoted by Goosen Tutor.

That way Arum keeps the Main welterweight championship under his control no matter who wins. That's a Don King heavyweight tactic.....pure genius.
