Okay, so we all know what happened towards Alis end. Larry tapped that ass all night but Ali was old, skills diminished, and just wasnt Ali at all. Now my question comes off of Larry being a sparring partner to Ali. Do you think Prime Holmes knowing what he knows from sparring Ali lasts even 10 rounds with prime Ali?
How good would of Holmes done against Ali in the late 60s?

Assuming that Holmes would still have been the same fighter without the extensive time spent as a sparring partner for Ali, I'd say Holmes would be tough for Ali in any era, especially if he could get the jab working early. The thing about Ali was that he was always so much taller and faster than his opponents. If Holmes could walk Ali down behind the jab, maybe he gives him trouble.Originally posted by Scott9945I'm guessing he meant prime Holmes. He didn't turn pro until 1973 anyway. Ali was so fast then I think he stays a step ahead of Larry the entire fight.Comment

I don't know how good Holmes was in the late 60's and we didn't get to see Ali between 1968 and 1970 so we didn't get to see how good Ali could have been because that was the time when a person reaches their physical prime.
But considering that Ali had been a seasoned professional by that point and Holmes was still a sparring partner, I'd go with Ali.
Prime for prime, Holmes would give Ali a lot of trouble but I think Ali would edge a decision.Comment
