hopkins is going to take pavlik to a place he hasn't been before
Pavlik mostly has fights that go his way he gives pressure and oppent cracks or he gives more until they can't take it anymore
Hopkins is going to make pavlik uncomfortable make him miss and often he is just going to have to make sure the one that gets him does'nt end it
Pavlik carrying extra weight could be an issue as well its a big difference and will requrie the right preperation to ensure he doesn't tire out
I see this going to the judges Hopkins lack of punching is going to cost him as pavlik will throw more punches and will work in his favour with the judges
Pavlik UD
Pavlik doesn't have the knowledge to beat Bernard Hopkins, even as old as Hopkins is. Pavlik hits hard, but Hopkins has been hit by much harder.
Pavlik is much slower..and yeah although his punches are hard as hell...Hopkins could limit those also, neither Pavlik nor his trainer have any idea how to deal with his expertise.
Hopkins would likely show up in better shape.
And to negate this nonsense....Bernard Hopkins hasnt taken a knee or seen the canvas in ten years. Some fighters are just built like that.
Plus Pavilk isn't doing himself any favours by fighting Calzaghe's sloppy seconds.
Well I think HOP will take PAVLIK to school in the sense of PAV leaving the fight with a win and learning a lot about DEFENSE and how to cope with a fighter that is slick and crafty. So yes he will take PAV to school. I think this will be a TRUE test for PAV and if he gets by with that win, CALZAGHE should be next regardless if he beats Jones or not. I don't want HOP to lose but I want PAV to win. HOP is a LEGEND and PAV is in the making......
Yeah, I am very divided on this one. I really want both of them to win. I would love to see Bernard go out and retire with a big win over the latest hyped, undefeated big thing but I would also like to see Pavlik keep winning and keep on fighting all the top guys. Though I would prefer if he stayed in one division and unified middle before jumping around like this.
While I do think Hopkins can give Pavlik some serious trouble early on, I also think that at this stage he can't keep up with a guy like Pavlik who can throw so many punches every round, all fight. If Pavlik was just an average volume puncher then I would see Hopkins winning, but, with the amount of punches Pavlik throws it will get very hard on Hopkins down the stretch.
I actually didn't think Hopkins looked as bad or old as most people made him out to look against Calzaghe. I think Calzaghe was just able to adjust his game plan enough that it put Hopkins off his own game and the only hopeful thing I see here is that while Pavlik throws a lot he is not as experienced as Calzaghe nor as good at adapting and changing it up over the course of a fight. If something is not working I can't see Pavlik changing it up like Calzaghe was able to do to win. The only hope for Hopkins is that Pavlik can't change and gets spoiled enough that he can't throw as many punches or make the necessary adjustment and that Hopkins can keep it slow.
My heart wants Hopkins to win I think but my head is telling me that at this stage he just will not be able to make it so hard and awkward that it completely throws Pavlik off his game enough that he struggles all night to throw or land anything significant. It will basically be whether Pavlik can adjust quick enough during the course of the fight to Hopkins and whether he can unleash his usual amount of punches and wear Hopkins down. If he can then it will be a long and hard night for Hopkins. If Pavlik can't land and adjust then it just may be possible for Hopkins to eek out a decision.
This is going to be a very, very interesting fight and I'm really looking forward to it. Not only does it give an old legend the chance to go out on top with a huge career defining ****, if he can win, but it also gives the young, current, latest champ the chance to fight a legend and learn some very important experience while stamping his own seal on the boxing world with a career defining win, if he can win.
