Where do they get their numbers?

If they got a number from HBO, it wouldn't be , like, "The fight did in the general neighborhood range of about approximately almost 400 - 500K-ish. Ballpark. Thereabouts.".

When the numbers are released, HBO says "Cotto-margarito does 450K PPV buys."

As long as you see guys making broad estimates, they don't have the numbers. They don't know ****. Clearly, neither do you. The nums were avail since Tuesday....notice HBO has not publicized?

Actually these guys do know "****"

They pass along the "****" they know to you and me, the numbers will come out and you will lose your ****** bet you had going. If you were a fan of the sport of boxing you would be happy this fight did great numbers, instead you just want to ride the **** of a fighter who retired when he was becoming a mega star and was in the most stacked division in boxing.

When were these numbers available since Tuesday??

I got these numbers from the Rafael chat yesterday and Kim posted this at the Max boxing forum today.

If they knew the numbers, then why are their numbers 20% apart from each other's?? And why are they giving broad ranges? Does HBO release a range or a specific number? Think.

Go back to every other announcement. The numbers were available a couple of days after the fight. Example? See below. Look at the date of the announcement. HBO can tally and produce the results for "The World Awaits" within a few days, but this "mammoth" Cotto-Margarito fight will take so much longer to reconcile? **** off, moron.

The initial electronic feed was available on Tuesday, and the roll-ups from the RBOC's take a few days longer. I'm in that business.

You are out of your depth.

Boxing is Not Dead: De La Hoya-Mayweather Fight Sets Record for Most PPV Buys

Boxing is Not Dead: De La Hoya-Mayweather Fight Sets Record for Most PPV Buys

Critics have been claiming for months that boxing is slowly dying. The recent fight between Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather shows the exact opposite.
The highly anticipated fight between the two has become the highest grossing pay-per-view (PPV) event of all time. Nearly 2.5 million purchased the event for $54.95. This means that the fight generated revenue of around $120 million. The amount surpassed the previous record set by Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield. Their fight held the previous record of 1.9 million buys.

"This puts to bed this theory of boxing being in trouble, or being dead or dying," said Ross Greenburg, head of HBO Sports, to ESPN. "This fight would have never materialized if boxing was dying."

Greenburg credits the increased buys to HBO Sports boxing reality show "24/7". The reality based show follows the fighters weeks before their actual fight. This allows the viewers to learn more about the fighter, outside of the ring. The show was incredibly popular and helped HBO Sports draw more attention towards the boxing match.

"The series was not only well received by the American public, who were suddenly attracted in a very human way to these two fighters, but it allowed the media to cover the fight in more depth," Greenburg said. "They were able to dive deeper into the backgrounds of both fighters."

Greenburg told the media that the 2.15 million buys have to be multiplied because most people who bought the fight invited others over to watch.

"Multiplied by five fans or more a household, the fight likely was seen live by well over 10 million people", he said.

"I'm not going to say that boxing was thriving, but it was thriving on our network," Greenburg said. "I think we were losing the average sports fans, but this proves if you do the right names and the right matches you can win the average fan back."

You're page means **** all, ESPN posted on May 9 that the fight did 2.15

Oscar De La Hoya's fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. set a record for most televised buys for a fight, according to figures released Wednesday, surpassing Mike Tyson's second fight with Evander Holyfield and making it boxing's richest event.

It was not until October that the final tally of 2.4 million was finally confirmed.

Floyd Mayweather's May 5 megafight with Oscar De La Hoya did even better at the box office than originally was thought.

            -------------------------------------------------------------------------

The numbers I have posted for the Cotto vs Margarito fight were from ESPN and Maxboxing, you talk a good game about knowing your **** but you have yet to post the real numbers or a reliable source.

I'll take Steve Kim's or Dan Rafael's word for it over a balloon of hot air.

"The MGM Grand Garden Arena seats 16,000. A disappointing crowd of 10,477 attended the fight. Puerto Rico vs. Mexico is still essentially an east coast rivalry. The bout would have been better attended had it taken place at Madison Square Garden or in Atlantic City. But Arum’s judgment was vindicated by the first post-fight pay-per-view numbers, which indicate that there were close to 500,000 buys."
