I think it depends on what people perceive has elite these days, Its difficult for me to class anyone has elite to be honest and only a few boxers would make that list in my book.

What is "elite"? The top ten? Top twenty? Top 5 or 10%? Who is elite if Hatton is not? Your highness.

How many guys have better resumes? He stopped both Kostya Tszyu and Jose Luis Castillo.

                Well,

                1 example:

                Sugar Ray Leonard was elite.

                Hatton couldnt hold Leonard's cup.

At 147, Leonard probably gets the decision. At 140, different story.

If you're the top guy in a credible divison, then you are a current elite fighter. Standards are ridiculously high. This forum is a disgrace for calling top 10 guys in a division 'bums'. The idea that Urango or Maussa are 'bums' simply because they arent P4P fighters is horrendous and completely disparaging towards the boxing world.

Looking at some videos, Hatton is NOWHERE NEAR the standard he once was. He head-hunts, he is slower, he is not as strong, he's not as durable, his stamina is not as good and he doesnt pick his punches half as well. And that is not just because of an increase in the standard of his opposition, its because he is past his peak years. But he is still the top guy in his division, he is still favourite to beat the other top guys in his division (which he likely will do with Paulie), therefore he is still 'elite'. Simple. You dont become 'elite' by beating other 'elite' guys. You become 'elite' by being better than the 'good' guys, hence the definition of the word. There are only ever maybe 2 or 3 elite guys in any division.
