Castillo had a good run as a Lightweight. He is certainly one of the better Lightweights of the last 20-30 years. He fought all comers and was one of the toughest bastards I can think of. He fought on very even terms with every other good fighter who came through that division...something to be admired. I wouldn't rank him in the top ten by any stretch though. I thought he dropped decisions to Casamayor (I believe I scored it for Joel by a point or two) and Johnston in their second fight, but they were both close affairs. Those are only my opinions though.

He was a really good fighter in his heyday.

I wanted to post this Friday before the fight after looking over his record. Wow, what a list. He had a stretch for about 6 or 7 fights that were just top notch. HOFer without a doubt and one of my all time favorites.

Not very many 18-3 fighters in his championship run, which makes it all the more impressive. None of those wins were to pad the number of defenses he made.

Apparently some ****ing idiot made a thread about Castillo being overrated and that Pacquiao and Marquez would easily beat him.

Good. Read the first post, educate yourself and shut the **** up.

Okay, he was not mentioned in a thread about great Mexicans for too long.

                Absorb the knowledge.

Unfortunately he became a cautionary tale. He really did achieve a lot under the radar.

Why do you think he never caught fire?
