Taking a knee is an indication of wanting to take a break or wanting out. The first knee can be said he was looking for a break. The second one immediately after says he knows he can't handle the pressure. There wasn't any slip of any foot. His shoes were designed to avoid slippage. He took a knee because he couldn't handle Margarito any more. I don't blame him, he was taking a brutal beating at that point and wanted to live for another day and fight. He quit. It doesn't alter my view of him though. Hes proved his toughness to me.

Taking a knee to avoid punishment is not quitting. He realized he was in trouble and most likely took the knee to gain his bearings while using up vauable seconds on the clock. If he had quit he would have taken the count.

He just can't and won't ever beat Antonio Margarito.

This is an assumption that may or may not be true. As of now I wouldn't pick him to beat Antonio. But judging by the way he fought before the stoppage he is certainly capable.

He was gonna get punked something fierce so he took the easy way out instead of going out on his shield...he knows he'll get another huge payday and decided to play it safe. You guys are sugar coating this too much...the boy quit...plain and simple!

What you don't see from that is the look on Cotto'sface as he was looking toward Margarito.

You see that right before he turns to his corner. And the look is resignation.


He wanted out. But he didn't want to get literally knocked out.



The term "quitting" obviously upsets some people.



I'm not hating on Cotto.

But I know if certain other fighters went out like that.

They would be considered worse than quitters.

They'd be lambasted like dogs.

Miguel did not quit. Tony won fair and square, But Cotto didn't quit. Sorry to make another thread about this though..

When cotto got up from the first knock down he took a few shots and ran back into the corner and took a knee on his own and looked at his corner. He didnt want to go on dude. Even in defeat people still try to make something its not. IF im beating the **** out of you and you go running back into the corner and with out me hitting you, you go down to your knees did you quit?
