  • lost the battle but not the war? so goes miguel cotto's rhetorics. a rematch will make no sense. margarito is simply too much for cotto.

evangelista made the right decision, the tijuana tornado would have inflict more damage on cotto had his corner not throw in the towel.

i hope delahoya will challenge cotto now!

I just wish he would have won so he coulda fought de la hoya. margarito doesn't have another fight like that left in him. once in a lifetime he risked his career to win it. he took a lot of head shots lets see how he recovers. I still think the rematch is the next fight and they can call it whatever they want. ill call it payback.
It's ignorant for you to say that Margarito won't be the same in a rematch because he took a lot of head shots, when it was Cotto's will that was broken and it was Cotto who took far worse punishment. Cotto was not only beaten physically but he was also beaten mentally, a mental defeat is far harder to come back from

          • I'm given Margarito props for his great win. He won fair and square and deserves all the credit in the world The guys a monster. But i think Cotto will get him in the rematch.

            • cotto is the man, he impresses me more and more, everytime i hear him speak, he raises his level of professionalism above and beyond. as far as i'm concerened he is saying all the right things, he's more humble than you could ever expect from a fighter and more honest on top of that. he has taken his loss like a champ and is showing the greatest part of a warriors spirit in that he not only wants to get back into the ring THIS YEAR but he also is saying that he wants to fight a rematch against margarito! wow! that is awesome! really, there are a lot fo guys that have been beaten and said that they would like a rematch, only thing is, you don't ever believe them, especially when they gave it their all and come up short, just from reading what cotto is saying, you totally get the feeling like he's already making up his fight plans for a rematch, he's already set it into action, even if it's just a thought right now.

cotto keeps on impressing me to the fullest, and a rematch is very neccessary.

Not according to the judges he wasn't....even if he didn't quit he would have lost.

                    • The rematch almost never ends up like the first encounter. What's hilarious is, every person on this website ALWAYS says, "it's going to end just like the last one..." and then it doesn't. You people have been wrong 100% of the time.

Pavlik-Taylor II comes to mind. 10 out of 10 people spouted for days how Kelly would KO Jermain again; this time in an earlier round. Not only did it not happen, but with the exception of the 11th round, Taylor's punches were actually more effective than Pavliks. It was a close decision.

Tarver-Jones II. People predicted another boring, decision victory for Jones, perhaps a little more convincing because he had spent a little more time adjusting to 175 after weight-draining down from heavyweight. What happened? KO 2. Then the third fight rolled around, and the very same people called for a Tarver KO, and instead it ended up the slowest, most boring fight of the trilogy.

Abraham-Miranda II. 9 out of 10 people predicted that Miranda would finish the job he started when he broke Abe's jaw. Instead, he got completely dominated from the opening bell.

When the two of them were boxing, Cotto was outclassing Margarito by a mile. When his nose got broken, and he didn't press into Tony's body after counter-punching him, or at least get into a clinch, it just became a matter of time before Cotto would wear down. Margarito simply waited. Going forward is less taxing than going backwards, especially when the back-peddlar isn't attacking the opposition's body or forcing clinches following a series of counter-punches.

There is no proof, historical or otherwise, that would suggest the fight will end up the same, or more in Margarito's favor the next time around. Cotto is a true champion, and he will make the adjustments.
