Prime Welters of 5 years ago would destroy Welterweights today

A past it Mosely had a razor thin decision against him in favour of Cotto, De La Hoya had a SD against former P4P king Mayweather. I think it's safe to say that both Mosely and De La Hoya would cruicify today's welter division. It consists of people like Cotto, Margarito, Judah, Cintron, Collazo, Clottey, Williams, Quintana and Berto all good fighters but they don't measure up to the likes of Trinidad.

The welterweights that were competitive in 2000 would take today's seemingly packed Welterweight division and destroy it. We would be looking at fighters like a Prime Forrest, Mayorga, Trinidad, Mosely, Quartey.

They would all beat fighters like Cintron and the "lesser welterweights of today" and I would put them in as favourites over Williams, Margarito and Cotto. The only one I would be sceptical about is Mayorga because of his lack of Boxing skill but his rugged toughness would provide a test for each and every Welterweight of today.

5 years ago the division wasn't great, the welterweights 9 or 10 years ago were better though.

Agreed. Hell, Oba Carr would have a belt if he were in his prime today.

I disagree with the bold because judges scorecards don't always truly reflect what happened during the fight.

I'm assuming your talking about Mayweather not getting his respect (because your a Mayweather fan) notice I didn't talk about Mayweather once because he's retired.

There are some good welterweight champions today but i would have to agree. Trinidad was a monster, so was a prime De La hoya, Mosley, Carr et. I still think that they would struggle with Margarito and Mayweather though. Anyone would struggle with a guy that could take your best shots and not be effected by them and is a hard puncher himself. I would favor De La Hoya and Mosley over Mayweather. Mosley with his busy volume punching style and i figure if a past his prime De La Hoya nearly beat Floyd, then i prime Oscar could pull it off and definitely had the stamina to do it back when he was in his prime.
