No I think Floyd has a good shot against Margarito. It was just that Margarito had a good matchup with Cotto. Floyd would fight smart and not be lured into a slugfest or be caught up on the ropes a lot. Plus with Marg's slow punches, Floyd would be able to see those coming and get out of danger. Then he would pot shot, score points and find places to attack. I know Margarito fans would probably call him a puss for fighting like that, but it's how he fights and I don't think Margarito would have an answer for that style.

Im not a Floyd Fan but if floyd uses his boxing skills since thats his MO he could definitely come out and beat Margarito.

Cotto before he gassed who isnt the best boxer was making Margarito look like ****. I can see Floyd winning with ease .

He is way to fast for margarito and wont let Margs hit em like he did a Cotto who had nothing laft after round 9

you think floyd would be able to shoulder roll on the ropes... floyd would be running from corner to corner pot shotting.. so then it becomes floyd throwing probally 30 punches a round and landing 15 to margartio throwing more and missing more but being the agressor...

im not saying margartio is a world beater or the best ever but fighters like him or even a paul williams would be nightmares for floyd... even cotto wouldve pressured him to an extreme amount...

I actually think Floyd would be Margarito. In order to beat Margarito, you have to have incredible speed, intelligence, stamina, defensive skills, and accuracy. Floyd would do what Cotto did early on, but better and for the whole fight. A master boxer like Mayweather would beat Margarito. I still think Cotto can win a rematch though.

yeah i agree Floyd and Margarito would be close, and a pretty good fight i think, same with Cotto and Margarito rematch, just like the first one. theres going to be some good fights ahead

Yeah your right Floyd hasn't faced that kind of guy for a while. I can't really think of anybody since Jesus Chavez. I just think Margarito wouldn't connect flush very much and miss completely quite a bit, while Floyd even though he wouldn't throw probably even half of what Margarito would throw would still land the more telling shots and impress the judges more. He wouldn't ever stop Marg, but win a decision. This is all speculation though because even if Mayweather does come back I doubt it's against Margarito.

I don't think Marg was the sole reason why Floyd retired, but Floyd does leave himself open for his critics because he didn't fight tough guys like Maragarito and I understand that. I am just speculating that if the fight happened that's how it could play out. Cotto was fast, but also could be lured into Margarito's style and that's what happened. Floyd is one of the smartest fighters out there, is in excellent shape to go twelve rounds and is one of the fastest fighters there is assuming that he doesn't stay retired.

BTW Im not even that big of Floyd fan and wish he would come back and fight real threats to him in the WW division instead of big paydays. Im just calling it how I think it could play out. I could be right or I could be wrong.

OK so I've rewatched the fight acouple times now. Basically it's like this. Cotto played on the backfoot ala Floyd. He stuck on the ropes and countered effectively, ala Floyd. Cotto hits with POWER, unlike Floyd. Cotto is decently fast, Floyd abit faster but this doesn't matter. So now when Floyd attempts the exact same thing Cotto did, except with less power, brittle ***** hands, wtf will he do when Margarito hits anything he can on Floyd? He'll go to the body, the head, the side, uppercuts, everything. Floyd can block a decent amount, but not for a full 12 rounds. Muchless, the power Margarito brings is unlike anything he's felt for 12 rounds. I'm convinced Margarito would easily wear Floyd out just as he did Cotto except give Floyd less respect due to his lack of power.

power has nothing to do with this since it's been shown that no welterweight hits hard enough to make Margarito respect them. but Cotto was outboxing Margarito EASILY the first 6 rounds. You don't do that with power. You do that by being faster. Floyd would absolutely toy with Margarito for 12 rounds and I really, truly and honestly cannot respect the opinion of anyone who can't see that.
