  • This forum is ridiculous sometimes

Most people here don't seem to know boxing and just follow whatever they want blindly.
Calling Cotto a bum (which is absurd and extremely disrespectful I might add), and saying he isn't elite at WW, etc; These comments are just idiotic. Yeah he beat a past his prime Mosley, what has Mayweather done at Welter? And how many fighters would you honestly pick to beat Mosley on that night? I wouldn't be able to pick many, but Cotto proved alot of people wrong and he did it. He lost a hard fight to Margarito, so how does that dramatically decrease his stock at this point? Stylistically he was at a huge disadvantage, he tried different things so what do you want him to do? I guess most of these people never saw the Foreman-Frazier fights. Credit to Cotto for taking the fight.
And how in the world does this fight show what a Mayweather fight against either of these two would like? Neither fighter is anything like Mayweather and the fights cannot be compared, simple as that. Margarito was getting outboxed by Cotto for a few rounds, that in no way implies Mayweather would do the same to Margarito for 12 rounds. On the other side, Cotto losing to Margarito does not show me much reason to say he would get destroyed by Mayweather. It doesn't work that way.
Cotto may not be the same fighter he was before last night, but I hope he can be or even be better, but regardless people are twisting things around like crazy.

Foreman Frazier was a massacre of massacres, but what i think the board doesnt understand is that styles make fights with very few exceptions, there are some guys who can pracitically do it all against anybody and even when they lose they still look good (hopkins, toney, casamayor) but for most fighters, they have a few dementions but they also have weaknesses, taking a loss doesnt make you a bum, it only exposes that those weaknesses were too much to overcome that night, its the lack of understanding that styles make fights is why you see all this ****.

Even people who call it early, half of them were just cheering for their own to win, there is nothing wrong with that, but its not really all that objective, you will see very little logical reason among fans of a fighter, which is why it leads to what you are seeing now, half of these threads are just there to hate on fans/country/fighter etc.

I agree. It is very rare to see fighters go through their whole career without running into a superior peer on a given night. On a higher level, Ali had no business losing to Ken Norton. Norton was a very good, even great fighter in his day, but he wasn't on Ali's level. He just had the right game plan and awkward style to disrupt what Ali wanted to do and he won their first bout as a result. Styles make fights is the truest cliche in boxing.

he has some great wins, but he was being promoted as a guy capable of beating Mayweather. that makes him overrated. Zab and Williams always had a better chance than either of those guys we saw last night

Styles make fights and I STILL think Cotto is a bigger threat to Mayweather than Margarito. It was just a bad style matchup for Cotto.
