Cotto had never been in a long drawn out fight. He was not exposed as being a bum, but he was exposed as being a limited fighter. Shane showed us a bit of this, and Margs finished it off. Cotto is a converted southpaw. Maybe he should've stayed that way. Cotto, when under pressure, could not use his speed advantage and use defense the way Floyd does against bigger men. Cotto became a sitting duck. Cotto has never fought in a long drawn out fight. He might've even been winning, and crumbled the minute he got hurt. Instead of holding, I think his pride got the better of him.
Was Cotto prepared for a long drawn out fight? No disrespect to Cotto but no!

First off, he wasn't fighting a Mexican.
He was fighting a Saiya-jin.
Like I said in another thread, Cotto relied too much on legs and became too fascinated with throwing headshots.
Margarito is wiiiiiiiiiiide open to the head and a power puncher like Cotto was expecting for his punches to sooner or later have effect.
When they didn't and Cotto saw how eager Margarito was too get hit some more, he got discouraged.
He was tired, discouraged, and beaten to a pulp.
That usually equals stoppage. -

He was if he was smart. No matter what his huggers were sayin, he shoulda been professional enough to understand he wasn't gonna blow thru Tony wit ease and KO him. If he was gonna win, he was gonna do it on points by outboxin Tony. He was ready for what Tony brought and he tried to do what he was supposed to do, and even tho it worked for a while, he just couldn't sustain it.Last edited by MANGLER; 07-27-2008, 12:58 PM.Comment

Margarito can go full throttle when a man doesn't even slow you to the body. Cotto head hunted all night, and he paid for it.Comment

Cotto used so much power on offense and so much energy, he showed a lack of defense which Margs exploited. Sure he swelled Margs eyes up, but Margs kept trucking. Cotto instead of resting and using defense, he showed Margs that he was tired, and lacked defense on the inside to avoid Margs inside punches when he was trapped on the ropes. The way he was grabbing the ropes in the corner lets me know that his back was tight also. Cotto's style of leaning forward might have also hurt him. Many factors as to why he lost, but credit Margs, he exploited every mistake because he was ready, and has fought in big fights. Props to Margs.Comment
