yes he could. it would be less action. but no doubt he could..i think cotto stayed to long for the trade and when he got hit it finally tooks its toll and slowed him..mayweather is waaaaay quicker then cotto and would school margarito.hats off to margarito though.dude is a beast

Yes, definitely. This fight just reaffirmed my belief that Mayweather would actually have a pretty easy fight against Margarito. Mayweather is the best at what Cotto was very easily able to do against Margarito for a lot of the fight, but, Cotto just didn't have the conditioning or the stamina to keep up the jab and movement otherwise he would have had a pretty dominating win over Marg.

Mayweather also would not be effected by the body shots that hurt Cotto and would not be hit with any of the uppercuts that also hurt Cotto and screwed up his breathing. I was actually very surprised that Cotto was able to so thoroughly dominate Marg for the first part of the fight until his conditioning, or lack thereof, got the better of him. Margarito took some serious punishment though and did not look hurt at all during the fight. He's one tough SOB!

I thought Cotto would work to his body a lot more than he did. Obviously his head was so open though that he felt he couldn't go wrong, and that after a while the punishment would add up and Marg wouldn't be able to take anymore.

If you look at it like this, it would just show that Marg basically couldn't beat Mayweather. Cotto easily out-boxed and counter punched the crap out of him for the first five or six rounds. Even after that he still out-boxed him pretty easy at times but just didn't have the conditioning to keep it up. Mayweather is faster with both hands and feet and better at lateral movement so that's a big point right there; Mayweather could confuse the crap out of Marg with the side to side movement. Marg looked slow and lost at times when Cotto was still moving well. Mayweather is much faster than Cotto and Cotto made Marg look very slow. Mayweather, and this is the biggest part, has much greater staying power and endurance. He can keep up the constant move/potshot, jab, jab, dodge, punch etc for the whole twelve rounds.

Margarito is a great fighter and insanely determined but there is just no way Mayweather would get into the kind of fight that Cotto was willing to get into and made him lose. He doesn't have a whole country willing him to fight 'macho' style. Mayweather just doesn't care about that and it would get him the win pretty damn easy. I would much rather watch Marg vs Hoya, rematch vs Williams or a rematch vs Cotto even. After this fight I still think Cotto gives Mayweather the hardest fight right now.

In all seriousness mayweather would have been able to have done it.. i bet mayweather has already seen margarito weakness and is plotting a way to exploit it if he comes back

He could but he wouldn't.. He'd do it, but effectively.. Fair enough cotto counterd well for the first six rounds but at the expense of his body being worked rapidly. Floyd's body would never be tagged that often and his counter punching/defense cannot be compared to cotto's as its on a different level.
