Barrera was his first REAL test.

And he failed. He lost every round. Why? Coz he was over hyped. Naseem's greatest talent was his entrance. Even he believed he could win by dancing like a stripper in the ring.

His final exit was muted and by then, no one cared. Barrera crushed that boy's dream like a house of cards.

barrera won EVERY round? how roy jones like of him.

having 1-2 belts for 6 years and beating every single beltholder in your division is not overhyped.

the kid fought a lot of good fighters just because he lost to the best fighter on his resume doesn't mean all the other fighters he beat weren't that good.

6-7 years after hamed beat medina , medina had won multiple belts. kevin kelley not any good? mccullough was a bum? soto was crap? vasquez won a belt at 118 , 122 and 126. vuyani beat mckinney for his 122 belt and defended it 13 straight time before finally jumping to 126 to challenge hamed.

      he beat solid opponents.

I've seen those guys fight. They don't even come close to Barrera. This is what I'm talking about. Medina? Jeez, man. You gotta be kidding me. He hits like a girl.

well not many guys come close to barrera. that's why barrera is barrera.

no one is saying hamed is as good as barrera or morales. but just because he's not as great as those 2 doesn't mean he's not great.

don't dump on medina too much......the guy is like a 4 or 5-time champ at 126. seems like more than a few champs had the same opinion of medina as you did. then they get into the ring with him and he ends up taking their belt.

how can anyone say hamed was on the decline when he fought barrera. he's only 27 that time for christ's sake. is that the new past his prime age now? it was 30 for morales as pachaters would like to say always and that's already a low number, ppl are fighting till 34 and winning great fights.

hamed is a great fighter per his resume but not a 'great' fighter. 'great' fighters have heart which he lacks. he's still a clown to me who got exposed.

people are different. some guys burn out at a young age. some guys are actually better when they're older.

the guy had a bad lifestyle outside the ring that can affect you.

Anyone who says a foul word about Nas legacy or in ring abilities is a hater from top to bottom. There is nothing else to call it.

i only see that as an excuse for having no heart, ie not great.

With all due respect to the threadstarter, Hamed receives the flak he does because of the way he was maneuvered and the fights he avoided.

It's real easy to throw down a list of names that look solid and say, "look at how many good fighters this guy beat." I've seen people do that with Oscar. But unless you actually remember when he fought those people, who people thought he should fight instead and what the public perception was at the time, it means little. So sure you can list Tom Johnson as a great win for Hamed but we all know Johnson had a foot out the door when he beat him. Same for Cesar Soto and several other names on the list.

Really, I could break it down but I'm not up for it this morning - tired of battling the boxrec warriors. In any case, I will say that Hamed over time has become underrated but that's probably because he was overrated during the time he was fighting.
